all i want is to express my hopes for chaotic DAW to be developed further.
They said it's going open source!

i can see a lot of potential in this tool...
it doesnt do audio-recording only MIDI-sequencing but in a interesting way.

if you havent tried it, here's the website: http://chaoticdaw.com/features.html

its lightning fast but missing important things like "quantize" and to me the audio-engine seems a bit dodgy and laggy

Post

Yeah but its been dead for a while

Post

Same here.

Certainly not fully-featured, but certainly capable at what it does do (so far?).

I hate things like this.
I feel often like I'm the only one who just wants a basic and quick DAW at a reasonable price. I'm 'stuck' using things that are dead or on the back burner like Chaotic or EnergyXT, Temper, Podium.

I'm not simply left with them, but rather, only find them after they're dead or long-still. Depressing and unfortunate.

I wish someone would take the now open Chaotic and do...something....

I've got the thing downloaded here and just kicking a few ideas around with it...seems to be working well enough here.

Yeah..as far as the dead thing is concerned it is a little annoying. And...is it really 'open'? As in 'open source'? :help:

they say they are preparing for going opensource ... and i'm pretty confident that they will... guess they're just busy...

did you record MIDI playing in realtime?

Post

I've done a bit of it but not enough to really go deep yet...

It is very nice indeed.

I think that if it gets open sourced it will became quite popular with the community and better than quite a few open sources alternatives.

Post

yup i'd like to see this one get some loving too :)

it reminds me of Musagi which also went open source as the author didnt have the time, but hasnt really gone anywhere since..

Gah! The site has been down for about three weeks now and I wanted to try this on my laptop. :(
There is THIS, but I have no idea what to do with it...

I don't suppose anyone has the installer?

You could download it as a zip file and install it that way...the one I have here was done that way...

I had a look at the source code on their Github page... It's a bit messy, and they had to gut out the ASIO and VST SDK stuff so that Steinberg doesn't send ninja assassins to their house.

They absolutely did the right thing by by open sourcing it when they abandoned it, but I have doubts that anybody is going to pick that one up and run with it.

Post

Quite nice!!!

Let spreed the news to see if there is programmers interested in picking this up it is quite a nice concept, different from what is out there it would be quite a waste if it is not picked up.

How? With no setup.exe or install.exe and a folder that simply contains parts of the whole, I'm totally lost. :help:

I haven't tried it yet, but I would appear that if you install the Code Blocks IDE, and open that folder as a project, that you can compile and run it from Code Blocks...
