Which vst based guitar amp sims should I check out?

The cold hard truth is that so far no plug in sounds as good as the better hardware modelers, but the hardware modelers are expensive and less flexible to use. That said, there is no accounting for taste. I saw someone post that they liked "S-Gear and Revalver" which makes me scratch my head because S-Gear sounds great to me and Revalver sounds horrible.... TO ME. So, when opinions like this abound, how can you trust anyone? You can't. Demo them and trust yourself. No one else's opinion is worth a lick.

Haha. No. Who's officially declared it as "standard"? IKMM? Haha. No. It doesn't work that way.beau921 wrote:@EvilDragon:
Remember when Amplitube 3 was launched, the colorful ad that said "King Of Tone?"
All the angry debates over, comparisons to, and chatter about it, past, and to come, only serve to prove it was then, and still is the standard as the "King Of Tone."
Good try.
S-Gear kills A3 in tone and real amp behavior several times over.

I wish I knew what you guys were talking about. I've got all of these and all of them have good and bad aspects. None are the perfect drug.
This seems to have turned into "my amp sim is better than your amp sim" thread. Let people use what they want.
And this idea of graphics being the main hitch doesn't fly with me. If I like the sound, then I like it

I'm late to this, having been unavailable for a bit, so this doesn't apply to the most recent posts. It goes back a page or more.
Enough with the personal abuse and incivility. Discuss software. Discuss music. Don't attack one another. Don't fling personal insults. Those who have been engaging in such behavior know it so I won't call names, but to you: quit trashing the thread; help the OP instead.
People have differing opinions. Recognize that and don't think yours is the only valid one. It's not. Mine's not either. That's why we have forums.
To those who have been staying on topic and steering clear of personal insults, you have my thanks. Well done.
P.S.: Company representatives DO have the right to recommend their products, providing they don't monopolize threads.

Exactly. Let people like what they like. I'd love to do the real thing. It's just too costly and too cumbersome for me. For all the cash I've plinked on amp sims, and even a couple of hardware emu's, it's still way under what an axe fx costs. Maybe if I tried something like that or the kemper I'd save my squeegee money (I'll give a penny to the first person who can remember where that came from!) but for now I LOVE living in the computer world. It's easy peasy.zerocrossing wrote:The cold hard truth is that so far no plug in sounds as good as the better hardware modelers, but the hardware modelers are expensive and less flexible to use. True. Someone could get the wrong impression that I claim that a flashy GUI means bad sound. No, of course. All I want to point out is that GUI doesn't matter, it's the sound that matters.EvilDragon wrote:True that.hibidy wrote:And this idea of graphics being the main hitch doesn't fly with me. Just to elaborate it a bit more.
Cheers!

Please don't get angry and ban me but I have seen no personal insults? some shrieking histrionics maybe but not insults. Personally i have found the discussion has pushed me into areas of modeling knowledge that i find inspiring and useful.Meffy wrote: Don't fling personal insults.
IK have great marketing and hype and make some good stuff but i like to support the smaller devs who are currently producing the most exciting stuff to date
Imagine if the Camels or Urs crept in a thread at any mention of someone wanting a new synth, it's just creepy man..
But i respect the rules, sorry if im out of line

Ditto, Leggie.
However, my general impression about Peter was really positive, and the AT is really not so bad as some say [me included lol] It's better than the Waves stuff, I can give them that.
The thing about Amp sims is that there are many 3rd party developers who make an incredible work in emulating these. Incredible work. I recently had an opportunity to test a tube emulation from one guy that's just incredible... here on KVR. You can always find some incredible work that people share here, and that's the main reason I stick to KVR actually. Not threads like this so much.
But the discussion about who/what is better can be of some use, too.

SS.org has the recording section with an endless outflood of examples from 100's of guitarist that are far better than I. It all starts sounding the same after a while, and we are talking about MONDO GOB-OF-CASH rigs. Not just amp sims.
The only one I really do not like that I have is the carvin AT model. I got it well after my demo expired and told myself "well, I know you didn't like it, but it's new and shinny!" No, I was right the first time. But, I guarantee you it's me more than anything else because I heard other people posting perfectly fine examples

Speaking of cat pics...

Thank you for mentioning the ss.org, Hibidy, but it takes me to some "System Software" website?
