Im willing to bet this post on it!
I hope it is NI's version of the Moog Modular...that would be amazing!

Well, on the negative side, I'm sure they've been way too busy with this to do anything with Massive, which will undoubtedly languish in 1.x "maintenance updates only" mode for yet another year.
On the positive side, the new filter models they've presumably created for this might filter back into Massive if they do eventually roll out a substantial Massive update. And this does look maybe possiblly potentially interesting.
Ok, I'm going to get a java refill and go check out some tools.

The panel layout, the knob and selector switch styles, the oscillator waveshapes - all strongly suggests Minimoog.Upright wrote:I hope it is NI's version of the Moog Modular...that would be amazing!
No hint of modularity (the Reaktorish block diagram bit looks like a signal flow diagram to me).

There's no way NI will make it monophonic. That just doesn't sound like them.
It's all about the wavelets. I dream of the perfect additive synthesis.

Haha - Sure. A revolution is coming! No Polyphony!hakey wrote:No hint of modularity in the audio examples either, which all sound like straight up analogue subtractive - and monophonic, to boot.

Yeah, I don't think monophonic would be a smart move. Most of the Minimoog emulations out there now have a mono/poly toggle switch, so this would be a huge mistake if it is mono only.

I think it will be customizable (spell check tells me that's not a word)
like Guitar Rig. Ie, you select stuff like oscillator, filter type, fx and could build what you want/need.

That would be cool - sorta like Reaktor for the masses with more of a GuitarRig design for tying modules together.osiris wrote:I think it will be customizable (spell check tells me that's not a word)

I've always wondered why there weren't more modulars with that workflow - Tassman, KharmaFX, maybe to some extent Zebra come to mind - whereby the gui reflects the loaded modules and routing, as opposed to a more fixed layout with cables, etc.
As far as a monosynth - it does seem ridiculous in the sense that the same limitations on building poly's in hardware (for cost / size considerations) don't apply to plugs short of the extra engineering. However, there could be precedent for it. After all, if (for example), there's been somewhat of a resurgence in mono, and for a good price, one could view it as an addition to the "desktop" mono market, etc.
Plus, though we all want high-quality sound in plugs, the expectation in software is for features, since it's "just code" - so no complaints when you can't route LFO to osc pitch, for example, in hardware, but no excuse in software. However, that detracts from the "instrument" in some ways - big modulars are open books, but a good monosynth has a sound and it's easy to know how to use it and what to use it for.
Always loved Logic's ES-M for that.

If this is a Reaktor-like Moog Modular emulation/of that nature, I will be having wet dreams until I have a copy. NI hasn't given any kind of indication on a release or official announcement date?

Very true.

Very true...but I did see what I like to think are patch points. I can't wait until this thing is finally unveiled.
