In the basement where I play with my friends, we are currently using a Roland e-drum set. It is an old one and the sounds on it are a little bit "outdated" in comparison with some VSTi I've tried on my PC.
We are thinking about using the e-drum set as MIDI controller, connected to a PC we use to record ( throught a Tascam us144 mk2 ), in order to improve the sound quality and flexibility, and to have another audio input free.
At home, I use Drumcore Free, EZDrummer Lite or Sampletank for drums.
Drumcore has IMHO a very good sound quality but the free version has only two kits.
EZDrummer Lite has only one kit, and it misses ride, crash, toms etc.
Sampletank would be the better solution, taking in consideration the fact that I have many acoustic kits in this format ( I bought Acoustic Drum Collection 2 during the last group buy ).
The question are:
- Do you think it is suitable for it ?
- Is there a way to assemble a custom kit with Sampletank, borrowing pieces from different kits ( I was thinkin about layering different kits and/or splitting the keyboard, but I haven't tried yet )
Otherwise, can you suggest me some other free or very cheap VSTi to do the job ?
Many thanks in advance.
PS: sorry for my english.
Wich VSTi for an e-drum set ?

I use Kontakt with ns_kit7 (natural drum kit, now), various Analogue Drums kits and NI's Abbey Road 60s kits from my Alternate Mode TrapKAT. I've also set up the Analogue Drums kits for use with SFZ and Sforzando free samplers, so you don't have to shell out for Kontakt if you don't have it.
Personally, I've not been convinced by the price-performance of things like BFD, etc.
