Would I be better off with a pair of 6's plus a 10" sub-bass or a pair of 8's alone?
My mancave is 8.5 x 4.15 x 3.0 metres.
Assume it's treated. (It isn't but it will be soon)
Fanksalot people.

VXT?

6 plus sub, unless you are really sitting at an optimal position with proper, proper stands.

It looks like I am at the forefront of the 2.1 revolution at KVR lately; I have lost track of how many times I recommended 2.1 last week.

Thanks, always been a fan of 2.1 systems really. I fancied a second opinion though. Probably worth the extra $ to avoid mud. I can bypass the sub with a footswitch if needs be.
It's a dedicated room so optimization is the goal. :-)

VXT series is an upper level KRK system :-)

If you didnt already get the vxt, you may want to go listen to alternatives in that price range, you might be surprised...

Sounds like an excellent advice.

Haven't bought anything yet.
Listened to behringer stuff and really didn't like it. JBL has too much DSP gear in it for my liking, something else to go wrong.
I can listen to some Event 2020 v3's and yamaha HS80's this week. My budget is $1500 AU for a 2.1 system.
Adam F7 is within reach but not available to listen too. The A7x isn't in my price range here.
I think I'd find ribbon tweeters too harsh anyway :-)

Also, check out yamaha msp7's, plus the sub. There are two subs, one is really expensive. Based on budget this is the monitor I chose, and I got the pair + shipping + tax for 600 usd (but no sub just the monitors). I had to look really hard for that deal, but thats NEW price not b stock. HS80's are a different breed, but you should really hear them in person to find what you like best.

A7x are in the next category up price -wise, and in that range I might favor kh 120's.

I suppose you don't like Genelecs too much, werp? You sound like a KRK sort of person...

What about DSM3? with a sub? That would look killer :)

Not sure if it is within the range but something like a pair of KH120...

Had. Listen to all three yesterday, same shop...that was a surprise!
I've just ordered the VXT6's. the Events were very muddy and the yamahas had a none existent low frequency delivery.
I ran a pair just out of the box and out in the open with "welcome to the pleasuredome" by frankie goes to hollywood.
First fully digital recording at all stages of production. Worth a listen if you haven't heard it
:-)

I scored the pair for under 1K Australian. They generally go for 15 to 16 hundred here.

Best price the shop could give me was 1220, so I ordered them online from a company I've used before.

You must have quite a high bass tolerance, because HS80 is where I would say "that bass is enough."

Anyway, good for VXT6! They are real good.

Wait, VXT6 goes for that much? You Australians have it bad. For $1500 + tax, which would be right at $1600, we can get VXT6 + KRK sub. That's not even the cheapest price. In fact, $1300 would get me VXT8. Focal 65 would also be around $1500...

I'm probably 1/2 deaf...
I spent a decade as technical manager in a 400 seat theatre...live rock and roll prior to that.
I never have liked too much volume really.

As an aside, the adam a7x are 1700 a pair and the kh 120's are 1100 each.

Event opals are a touch under 4K....maybe next time :-)

Too bad. KH120 is $800+tax = $850 Australian here.
