Yeah, top quality too, far superior to what came with Studio One and the sample based stuff is also better than what comes with Logic (and it's probably the only other DAW where the instruments and fx come close to Logic's stamdard)

the Live 9 Suite, could be the only DAW that came with such a complete Orchestral Library with great quality.

Yeah, that was the only thing that made me contemplate upgrading to Live 9.

Too bad it's not available for Live 8.

The content included with Live 9 Suite is really insane. I already downloaded around 30 GB of the included Live Packs and also some free Max 4 Live plugins.

I don't know about that. I think Logic's factory content is way better than Live's for the most part. Not that the Live native devices are that bad but they are terrible at making presets if you ask me. A big reason may be some of Live's effects. Most presets have really harsh ugly overdrive and of course the reverb is not very good. But they put those on all the synthy stuff it seems. Even the synth type sampled instruments have such an ugly cheap digital sound. The samplification pack is particularly horrible. Mind you I'm just talking about the synth style sounds. The ones made by partners such as the new acoustic piano included and some of the other instruments like guitar and such are pretty good. The sound objects, many of the new drum packs are excellent as well. But there is still a lot of complete crap. And the effects often make them less good. Compare AAS presets to similar ones in Live and AAS ones are always better, due to effects like chorus and reverb. Compare some puremagnetik or SonicCouture packs in Kontakt to the Ableton presets. World of difference.

As for Granulator, it's interesting but takes way too much cpu, I just go back to using Reaktor or Alchemy. Also try using it with control surfaces the parameters are a mess. Only some are accessible and in a random order. With things like APC40 and Push being dependent on well organized parameters, it's amazing that this was still not given much thought.

Hmmm interesting mate. Cause I have Reaktor too but I haven't found any really useful nor very powerful granulators yet. Most ensembles in the user library are very messy and painful to use, sound glitchy and not very smooth. The only useful one is the one I have made hahaha

Any ensembles you might recommend checking and that is competing & close to this Henke's Granulator maybe? Cause it does sound really good & velvet from the audio examples.

I don't know about that. I think Logic's factory content is way better than Live's for the most part. Not that the Live native devices are that bad but they are terrible at making presets if you ask me.

I was referring more to the sample libraries, particularly the impressive orchestral ones and stuff like The Forge. Logic's instruments are on the whole still better, and yes better presets too but I don't use much of the sample content. Also Live does have some excellent effects and racks.

There are some like Graincubes and that Newish Drone-E floating around that are pretty cool. On a simpler level the ReaktorTips.com granular sampler pack looks nice and I'm still a fan of the factory Granistates and travelizer myself.

Right right, Drone-E is pretty cool and fun! Forgot that one... I might give Max For Live a try and see how this Henke's Granular stands against the other granular suspects, and see if MforL worth it just for Granulator.

Oh ok. Yeah I suppose the Ableton Orchestral stuff isn't bad, but to be honest I don't even see much quality difference with that and Logic's stuff. But I think I'm biased with this because I've spoiled myself over the last year with a few amazing Orchestral Libraies like spitfire Audio's Albion series, LASS and Cinesamples. It's amazing how far sampled instruments have come over the last few years and how quickly you can turn into a sampled instrument snob. I certaily don't feel that way about soft synths. I'll never think Logic synths are bad for example.

No I wouldn't say it's worth it just for that, however there lots of other cool things with M4L, like the little drum machine modules which work great with drum racks, or the midi devices like lfo's and envelopes. Now you can have as many lfo's and envelopes as you want on any automatable parameter of a synth. Also other useful things like having more macros on a track etc. It's another good reason to go for suite over standard anyways.

"it works nicely in L9, much better than in L8 due to a few improvements on the M4L side of things, both from Ableton and from Cycling74

Differences from version one, most important: it is now possible to change the grain size without that nasty pitch shifting artifact. and since this is possible, i added modulation of grain size via random and via the LFO. it is also possible to use the second envelope generator now to modulate the intensity of the FM section. and a few detail improvements and bugfixes. that's all as far as i can remember..."
