Just what audio to midi can do. It's a George Duke wav and then made into a very average sounding piano. The possibilities are endless.

Is it just me, or would it take like a Vulcan mind-meld to remember all those combinations with that "Push" thingy? I realize it has potential for Live devotees and non-keyboard players but after watching the videos I was wondering how long it took the demonstrator to learn that stuff... Ha!

I actually like the looks of both the new site and the software. Something I have wished for quite a while though is that there was an option to render the Live GUI without the antialiasing.zerocrossing wrote:Don't get me started.ThomasHelzle wrote:Well, be thankful that it isn't looking like the websiteschnapsglas wrote:Are people at Ableton colorblind? They were at the vanguard of this new "clean UI" look. How did they get it so clean? Well they removed visual cues as to the functionality of elements. My current client is gaga over this new look (I guess he upgraded to Windows 8 ) and now he's complaining that "it's hard to tell what items are indicators and what items are clickable." Of course, early in the process I explained, "The problem with this look is that..."

It is funny, because from the start I thought "if Ableton fails at tuning audio to midi, they will call it a creative tool," and they did. Of course possibilities are endless, but -- the conversion is just not very good. Possibilities are endless with any sort of audio programming software, but we don't really value it based on that fact alone.hibidy wrote:schnapsglas wrote:hibidy wrote:https://www.box.com/s/5n165vbrjw548ivlzc6h

The possibilities are endless. The george duke is a wav and the other is the extracted midi which means you can convert that passage to whatever you want. piano, strings, whatever. I have no idea what is funny about it.
It does provide new workflow and I do like it (at the danger of contradicting myself) but I think Ableton would rather have a working model.
And I thought you were being cynical like me, as well. It really made me laugh out loud, in the morning, because I thought it was your intention.

Yeah, the wording was very funny - take a George Duke file and make it sound average.
Amazing what tech can do

in mind. It really sounded like it
"Imagine if the Persians had won the Battle of Salamis. The present day would be almost completely the same. Or if King John had signed the Magna Carta while wearing bunny ears. The possibilities are endless!"

It is very cool. But the delivery was funny. Look at how they made this sound worse!hibidy wrote:I thought people would be like "cool" but guess I was wrong.ThomasHelzle wrote:Yeah, the wording was very funny - take a George Duke file and make it sound average.

I usually get that stuff and laugh too. This time, I fail.
Anyways, I've been using it a lot in the last week or so. SOMETIMES there are quite a few artifacts, which is easily edited, but can sound shitty.

Ok well I just uploaded my first Ableton Live 9 sketch in the KVR music forum. So far I have to say the workflow for me has been improved ALOT!
It took me about 4 minutes to figure things out and i was making tunes. The rendering of the final track using the 64 bit version was insanely fast! I am really enjoying the curved automation and improved clip automation.
Was the update worth it? Well so far YES! The Glue compressor and EQ8 sound excellent!
Actually the Glue is almost like magic, it just makes things stand out and just like the name implies, it glues the sounds together.
EQ8 sounds really good and you can really hear the changes when you tweak the parameters. For an all round EQ I think I'll definitely be using the EQ8 a lot more!
As far as the GUI changes go, so far It is nothing that big so I was able to adapt quick to the new changes.
I have not yet gotten around to using the M4L devices yet, but I will report on that as I start implementing them in my tracks.

You don't actually like it. Your brain is just producing dopamine in response to a novel stimuli. When the entire world is ugly like that, you'll miss vintage design.KungKrille wrote:I actually like the looks of both the new site and the software.
