You may find yourself living with a pro tools hack
You may find yourself in another part of the vst world
You may find yourself behind the keyboard with a large automation curve
You may find yourself in a Bitwig thread, posting cats
You may ask yourself, well, how did I get here?

Letting the days go by, let the waiting hold me down
Letting the days go by, Bitwig still is not around
Into the blue again after the beta's testing's ceased
Once in a lifetime, Bitwig still may be released

same as it ever was, same as it ever was
same as it ever was, same as it ever was

bugs dissolving and bugs removing
there are bugs at the bottom of the demo
remove the bugs, carry the bugs
remove the bugs *incomphensible enossification*

Letting the days go by, let the waiting hold me down
Letting the days go by, Bitwig still is not around
Into the blue again after the beta's testing's ceased
Once in a lifetime, Bitwig still may be released

same as it ever was, same as it ever was

LOL! debra1rlo you are on a roll! We have to make the best (worst) covers album eva - created in every DAW, but one, while there's still time. And there's plenty of it. If the marketing wigglers at BitW central were clever, they'd pay us to do it and release it worldwide just before BW is released, if not waaay before. :D
perception: the stuff reality is made of.

There was this tune of mine on Cubase
And the performance meter bounced
The file had got corrupted
My mojo: it was trounced

I said, I ain't spending me life here
Might mean starting again
Ain't poking no keys in my back port
I'm breaking out, maybe Bitwig bound

Gonna make DAW break
And I was thinkin about Abe Live'
I'm gonna make a DAW break
It's a crap shoot to decide
Gotta get me some Stability
Something cool with SMP
And PDC

Cubase let me out of here
Cubase, sixteen years
Steinborg, had more than I can take
DAWbreak, yeah

I'd seen my plugins being screwed with
By some clumsy code
CPU is up and mem'rys down
Felt a mic stand in my hand
Cabling started flying everywhere
The whole rig started to steam
Laptop lying on the ground
With a hole in its display
Where the lights had been

You gotta
Deliver me some stability
And - FFS - PDC
(howsa bout that SMP?)
DAW break
DAW break
Gonna try somethin'
Else or die

Backbeats - they were racin
Basslines - I was chasin
Overload - crackling - hard drives - sizzling
But I made it out ...
With an bounce down of my
.... Track

DAW break
DAW break ...

I took a blurry, jumpy video of a girl walking thru the woods wearing a Bitwig hoodie this weekend. I know no one will believe me.

But the aliens and reverse vampires do and that's all that matters. :)

Makes sense; the BW project.

vastarray wrote:A DAW is a workbench. A workbench should be flat and sturdy. Bells and whistles are bad things on a workbench. There are many VST developers that provide any bell or whistle I might need. I just need a flat surface to work on. I'll bring my own tools to that work bench. If you try to appease everyones desire for every obscure function that two people might use once or twice, you'll end up with a bloated, over complicated and unstable DAW. There are already plenty of those. Bitwig... make me a table. That's it. Just a table.

If you must include loops and samples, do it as an add-on package. I don't want that trash filling my hard drive. I use quality instruments. Junk instruments that I have no use for don't justify a price increase. A large pile of stuff is not a better product. Include such things as optional add-ons for those interested. ...Just build the best workbench possible.

Price aggressively. $50 introductory price. Increase to $100 two months later. $100 to update to newest version, offered every 6 months. Offer peripheral products like iPhone app, and iPad app. You're going to want to be in that market as it develops, so get your boots on the ground now. Forget Linux, they don't even have interface drivers.

Workflow is all that matters for a DAW. That's what you can offer. Be fast, be easy, be clutter-free. Be compatible with VSTs and hardware controllers. Do not try to be "like the other DAWS but new and shiny", or you will fail to find a userbase sizable enough to be a sustainable player in this market. You need to appeal to garageband users with ease of use, to songwriters with speed of use, and to free DAW users with a low price. You will not compete with Cubase/Abelton/Logic/ProTools. That market is locked down. Go directly for the hobbyist & semi-pro users. Forget the pros, all they do is complain and they are already locked into their current DAW anyway. Just ignore them, they will only drag you down. Make a DAW for musicians, not engineers. That's what the world is missing.

"A designer knows he has achieved perfection not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away." - Antoine de Saint-Exupery

Bitwig, make me a table. 8)

Oh great, does that mean that looking at Bitwig for 20 minutes is going to make me nauseous, too?
