What's everyone's take on the new breed of "stacked" p90's such as the pawnshop fenders, wilkinsons et all?

I haven't tried many p90s Mike, Of the ones I have I love the EMG P85 (just an 85 in a p90 size so obviously I'm going to love it!), Duncan ones (not sure which but the bridge got replaced with the mentioned p85, The one at the bridge was just meh but the neck one is still there and sounds good), Bareknuckle Mississipi Queen's, Demo example through our erm 'fave' or 'goto' combos here in the roland cube

& another config through a sweeter voiced amp in a Vox VR combo here: - I quite like it for a hot p90 but you know I am not really the best person/player to answer such a question...Nuclear output humbuckers or there abouts is where I have the most experience/knowledge (For example I'd say a JB is to me not a 'hot' bucker but more like medium if you know what I mean, Duncan Distortion would be what I'd call 'hot'). I really think you'd enjoy Bareknuckle's offerings if you get chance fwiw

Will post an example of my set of warpigs in action (although they are red hot buckers but still the neck cleans up really well when amps set appropriately plus the volume knob is rolled back and rolling off the tone fuully gives it a really awesome vocal/cocked wah low mid tone)

from me personally but seem to retain alot of chimey cleans through to spanky breakup and have teeth for highish gain mate from what I've heard and tried. As said non would pull me away from teh almighty buckers but credit where credit is due even though they don't give me erection

I plan to do a shootout between the Lindy Fralin, Kent Armstrong, and Lace P90's, which seem to be unanimously ranked across the forums as the best hum bucking P90's available. The cool thing is we built four identical mahogany body Les Paul Specials for the NAMM Show and can have them all installed at the same time. I'll install a normal Lindy Fralin P90 into the fourth one to be the gold standard.

I'm going to ask Billy Zoom to participate in the shootout.

Hi Uncle E, how do these P90's humbuck I thought you needed two coils for that.

P90's are my fav pickups but mine hum like crazy in some situations, I have a flouro lamp that causes hum even if it isn't turned on just plugged in. They are good at picking up noise from electric fences too.

d'addario XL "Balanced Tension" string sets are good/do what they say. So if you use the XLs already then might be worth picking up a set to give them a try when your next due a change.

hibidy it would be most beneficial to put one set of XL-BTs on one of the twins and the regular equivalent on the other twin and compare mate

I did so on my pair of dinkys so i could compare

hink let me know how you find them in 2015 when you finally change a set in full and have got through that stockpile

The snag? Well for my needs they only do upto an .11 - .50 set (the EXL115BT) which are just not meaty enough so I'll have to wait until they BT up heavier gauges such as the XL157 set. Still aslong as .11 - .50 are as heavier guage as one uses you'll be fine. Standard and drop-D was fun though as it had been awhile

Those are some strange strings. 9-40? Hmmmmmmmmmm. I'll have to check them out though (maybe on the new one (haven't named it yet)

You ever get to try circle K strings? Strangest sets I've ever used. I think that the 13 "B" is a bit much. I HATED the bass strings! I guess this is their answer to that tension stuff?

I've been using 9-46 on the main tuned guitars and 10-52 on the detuned one.

Not sure I've I'm going to make the new one drop C like I'd planed.....too new, gotta ride it a while first.

Thanks though Dean for mentioning them, I had absolutely no idea they existed!

btw, just checked GC and it's gonna be a week to 2 before they get them. I'll likely wait until they have a set in stock locally as I'm up on strings currently.

hink how many have d'add's you got left in that bulk pack mate? I know its alot to last you a good while

In other news I'm going to go with the Ibby Iron Label RG 8-string with gibraltar bridge and perhaps the S or RG 7-string also (Most likely without locking trem also). They meet my needs out of the box pretty much and come in at very reasonable prices. I'm really pleased that I can stick to not shelling out on a custom built job as I could just about afford it but then other areas would suffer

and I've not ruled out a Schecter SLX but they just have not landed near me it seems

Cool, Wish I had that many sets lying around John mate, Cheers on the Ibby front. Just both no frills which is what I want/like/need and yeah I'm liking the black (for a change

) also, Still its set off by the white binding and those necks I won't be able to fault I'm certain. Really they have all the important bits plus a killswitch for fun too. The eight is £600 RRP and S-series 7 is £475 IIRC, Awesome prices!

Chris I've never tried circle K strings, Since we share similar string tastes even though gauges differ between us I doubt I will, I'll keep an eye out though as I might just end up liking...I'm odd so who knows
