Did you also update to the latest Max version? Is there some older Max version lingering around causing trouble?koalaboy wrote:Upgraded my Suite to Live 9, for the Max 4 Live inclusion, but all I get is crashes and hangs whenever trying to use Max![]()

What do you like the most?
And what 2-3 things would you most like to see changed/improved?
I would like to see being able to browse samples and clips on my hard drive or what I put in Places. At this point this can't be done, but I know it's on Ableton's list to do. The other thing I would like to see would be loading 3rd party plugins without having to put them into an effects or instrument rack. Also, for whatever reason arm/disarm can't be done yet. That all being said, the nice thing about Push is that the firmware can be upgraded via Live, and I actually just received an email a few days ago with an update already that addresses some of the previous "dislikes" I had. So, Ableton is working hard on it. I think it will be and to some extent already is the ultimate Live controller.
The built quality btw is fantastic and the fact that it can be bus powered is very impressive too!

Thanks for your reply... I ordered Push when I ordered Live Suite 9. Glad to hear your impression of build quality and also that you have already received some firmware improvements.

I am running the latest version. It seems to be a Live problem as when it instigates Max, on my machine, the windows debug view shows Max trying to run 'segments' of the file path split up by whitespace - as if Live is passing it a path that isn't quoted. I've raised a support ticket, but I doubt I'll hear anything until the next version.pdxindy wrote:Did you also update to the latest Max version? I may try the latest Live beta, but I'll also raise a Max ticket and a furthe rLive ticket tonight, providing more debug. I really want it to work, but it's not very happy at the moment.

Try downloading the latest Max again and install it... see if that fixes the problem...koalaboy wrote:I am running the latest version. Did you try deleting all Max stuff before re-installing?

They need a auto-downloader/updater like NI service center hibidy. I think that would be most welcome.

Yep. I even re-installed to a different directory, and the errors are related to the new directory - there's definitely something wrong with the way Live is invoking Max, but I've no idea if that's normal and the actual problem I have is related to something else.pdxindy wrote:Did you try deleting all Max stuff before re-installing?
I'm fairly confident it will be sorted, and it's not as if I have much time to play around at the moment anyway
I'm also really interested in Push, but 16 weeks is a bit far out to get excited.

I ordered one... but yeah, 16 weeks is so long I am not even thinking about it at all... and I am fully prepared for that 16 weeks to stretch out even farther which does not seem unlikely

There's a very (very!) extensive review of Live 9 and Push in Soundonsound this month. They're really enthusiastic about Push... Makes me reconsider getting one.

I don't get the purpose of push. I have a MIDI controller, APC40, keyboard and a mouse. What can't we do with these things that we must have push for?
Is it a workflow creative-flow/zone trip? Sounds like it. But every time I have tried to implement something like this in my workflow I never can get it setup right, get used to it, etc.
APC40 is awesome, makes sense. But owning one makes push at least 50% less compelling to me. I work in the piano roll, or iteratively sequence with overdub, so ... It's neat looking and all, maybe I just don't get it ...

I think the idea of Push is that it's NOT aimed at keyboard players and those with a traditional setup... but rather if you are not tied to that paradigm, one might completely rethink the way we make music. The problem being most people don't want to take the time to "rethink" their current system.

i want one just for the velocity-sensitive isometric keyboard... i have not actually touched one in person yet (and not living near any good music stores, probably not for a while) but if it's usable, it seems an incredibly good compromise allowing a 64 key velocity and aftertouch sensitive keyboard to fit in your laptop bag...
