Hello,

Below are my feature requests for the new upcoming hopeful very soon enChord 2 by Avantgarde Sound. I hope they read this and respond. :)

One. Please, Please! First come out with a Windows 7 and/or 8 touch screen or MS Surface enChord 2 then proceed with the IPad version. From all the tablets it seem to me that iPad is the least desirable for music.

Two. Since there is no pressure or velocity sensitivity on any of the major tablets on the TileBoard (and NoteBoard?) make it so that one option allows the location of the finger strike within each key to determine the midi velocity. This to be configurable by drawing the parameters. If you do velocity please also add sustain, note length, pitch, and pan for each key.

Any more Feature requests :?:

I would disagree about ipad. I think many of us would like that first.

Hogo,

To make money Avantgarde Sound will have to do iPad first. My wish however prefers that he chooses the better platform, Windows.

Most people already have an iPad but I do not. Very few have a Windows touch screen setup. I will wait for enChord 2 to buy the iPad 4 just in case enChord 2 is simultaneously released for both platforms even though it is extremely unlikely. By then iPad 5 may be out or an efficient way to run iPad apps under Windows.

Do you have plans to buy enChord?
Do you have any feature request?

I have enchord v1. I only would like user interface improvements, which will come. I strongly disagree that windows is a better platform for THIS type of app. Windows touch, for me, is un-intuitive , and clunky. Ymmv of course.

Hogo,

If you tried it and is clunky that is something for me to consider. I do not plan to use the MS Surface. I suppose the MS Surface apps will also work in any Windows 8 desktop computer. I am a studio based musician and do not need a portable music making device.

Why I prefer the Windows 7 and/or 8 touch surface monitor setup over the iPad:

Windows allows you to use larger touch screen monitor.

Can use a much faster processor.

You can have and view multiple apps simultaneously.

Has USB and firewire, HDMI and Ethernet jack. Huge hard drives.

I will be able to see my midi controller, enChord in the same screen as Cubase and the VSTf and VSTi.

I may able to enlarge enChord and add more keys to strike and play music.

Would also work great with Photoshop.

For me the only advantage is the iPad has the most music apps and shortly enChord 2.

More details:

Since the thread enChord Feature Requests started, another related thread Velocity Sensitive http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=376201 appeared in the Mobile Apps and Hardware Forum. Obviously detecting midi velocity on a tablet or touch screen monitor is very important to music making. The thread Velocity Sensitive offers some possibilities. My feeling is the enChord Feature Request be broadened to include to detect midi velocity: location, finger surface area, sound (mic), pre-determined pattern, random with limits, set velocity at a certain value and the default off.

If midi velocity is implemented why not also add location for the midi note length, so as one plays the note length is determined by location of the finger strike. Ad also sustain/not-sustained, let's say left sustain and right not-sustained. Or the whole key sustained. Other parameters to add: pitch, I am certain that AvantgardeSound has some ideas of their own to add.

Where possible it would be great to be able to draw the parameters (with nodes?) and choose the axis that it applies. If not the axis then the grid or other pattern such as the hex Harmonic Table layout or the Tonal Plexus, the Jankó, the Continuum. How about allowing the user to customize the keyboard layout.

The keys to be re-sizable and the number of keys shown to be user determined. It would also be great if the keys can be re-mapped on a chart.

It would be great if the parameters are layered so two or more parameters can get affected at the same time so as an example the higher the velocity the shorter the note length and the lower the velocity the longer the note length.

I just hope that AvantgardeSound reads this. An acknowledgement that you are would be great!!!

Two more Feature Requests:

1. I had a dream that the midi controller enChord2/iPad or enChord2/Windows 7/8 would be able to host MFX (cakewalk) and VST-midi-fx (actually VSTi-midi-fx) and even the AvantgardeSound proprietary midi effects. Yes, Cubase can host these but I feel that having them in inside enChord and within easy reach may make them more useful.

2. An expression ribbon like the Kurzweil ExpressionMate surface area set aside for this function. You can name it Espresso or better yet Expresso! :D

Just thought of this and might sound silly to many. How about round-robin volume where as you strike the key you get a pre-determined variation of the volume. How about each note has its own round-robin?

Any more ideas?

So it may have been a blessing that the iPad does not have velocity sensing. This will allow AvantgardeSound to come up with ingenious ways to not only accomplish midi velocity but to advance it.

It would be great to hear a progress report. Will the enChord 2 be for iPad or Windows 7/8 and Surface Pro. Approximately when might it be available? Not trying to rush the developer but having some idea as to when will help me plan ahead. :D

Check this out at LinnStrument:
3D Note Expression http://www.rogerlinndesign.com/preview- ... ument.html
Click to see the various keyboard designs. :-o :o :D

I believe it is paramount that the midi keys displayed on the screen have the ability to express velocity at minimum. To control midi note length, pitch and timbre will greatly improve musical expression.

If I understand what you are wanting, I think using a control surface like the Novation Launchpad would give you the accessibility you want. Mappable, and touch sensitive.

Have you tried contacting the dev on the Enchord website?
http://www.avantgardesound.com/

This is taken from the Avantegarde website:
- A user licensed by Avantgarde Sound is ONLY authorized to use enChord as is. User modifications to enChord using Lemur Editor are allowed for personal use ONLY, and are forbidden for distribution/sharing/resale by any means

- enChord is not to be used, imitated, counterfeited, distributed, copied, and/or shared by any means without written permission provided specifically by A. I./Avantgarde Sound.

Imitated? How does a company enforce that?
"All generalizations are false".
"Don't quantize me bro"!

martygras ,

I am Sorry for such a late response. I did not get a notice that this thread had a reply.

Yea, something like Novation Launchpad. I do not use loops so the grid will be used as a two dimensional midi keyboard to play piano or any VSTi. My requests for a midi keyboard controller are very basic and simple. Some creative soul can revolutionize this design which can inspire and help one to make music.

Since the iPad is not velocity sensitive, velocity can be expressed by location of the tap of the finger. On the other axis midi note length for me would be another desirable parameter to control. Then one can select from the preferences other midi parameters to be included.

I personally do not have the computer skill to make any modifications to the software, This is why I am making feature requests. I just hope the AvantgardeSound is reading this. He has in the past responded to KVR posts.

I am looking forward to enChord 2.
