Hi,

I've put a video here (not public) showing a simple 4/4 beat with a chord progression (first bar of enjoy the silence's chorus) being processed by Kirnu. To my ears it sounds out of time.

Let me know if you need more info and I'll obviously delete the video when you want.

regards,

Kieron.

Does it work better with pre6?
Is it out of sync right from the start, or is it coming up later (when looping)?

I'm experimenting with Cream beta 6 in latest Logic 9.1.8 on a quad core 2012 Mac Mini with the latest Mountain Lion 10.8.3.

Timing is good while the track containing Cream is selected. But a temporary timing problem arises once I select any other track. The Cream track will then play back early and uneven (like in the video Kieron posted above). if I reselect the track containing Cream timing returns to good.

So - say you want to select other tracks to record them, the Kirnu Cream track plays out of time.

I did find a partial 2 step workaround:
(Only used when Kirnu's track can't be selected in Logic.)

Step 1
  • In the environment I wired a "Delay Line" Object between Cream's Virtual Output and the Software Instrument it was connected to.

The settings of the Delay Line are:
    Thru Original: Off
    Repeats: 1
    Delay ... 1

Doing this pushes the timing much closer and in my test track Kirnu Cream will have now have much less "jitter" around the beat and now be a nearly consistent 1/48th note late.
Step 2
  • I found that I can end up with a nearly perfect result if I then repatch the "Delay Line" output to go to the environment's "Sequencer Input' object to record Cream to the Software Instrument track. Last step is to move all the midi notes around 80 ticks earlier.
Not an ideal workflow but it does allow me to temporary "lock down" a Kirnu track to hear stable timing while I record other tracks.

Oh - and one other potential problem is that Kirnu Cream's keyboard commands conflict with Logic's extensive listings.
Would be nice to turn off or reassign Keyboard commands in Cream. (Especially the undocumented loop end movement that happens when I press the 0 key.)

I'm happy to report that after a quick check of version pre8 I'm getting even better AU timing. And may have found a simpler/partial workaround to the workaround i outlined above. Will be able to test it more when I get back to my studio after the weekend.
