On sunday I had the opportunity to visit the studio of my friend Bernie again. I'm still amazed not only by the impressive gear collection, but by his sense for interior design and his craftmanship.

the gear is lust worthy. I don't know about the interior lack of design ... the only thing I found aesthetically pleasing was the blonde in the yellow glasses.

Got some questions:
1)What the hell is he doing for a living? I mean all that gear has to be DAMN expensive.
2)What does he use it all for? Sound design, soundtracks? Because it looks like he's trying to contact freakin aliens.
3)Does he realise that he is a radical example of GAS gone bad? I mean, does he even use like 30% of that gear at all?
Don't get me wrong, I am really impressed by this monster of a studio and I realise it took A LOT of time and money (years...) to collect all that gear, but man... Am I only one who thinks it is too much?

It's a real PITA to change tracks in such a studio. 
Total recall is probably an hour of work. 
I think it's not worth it. He's an enthusiast, and that's ok, but I couldn't work that way. I know cause I've been through the hardware stage. Doing it in the box, with a few chosen hardware FX and synths is a blessing.
So no, it didn't really impress me. I had a full room of analogue synths and there were always lots of problems with that setup. Now everything is just peachy. I load the project file, it sends everything over MIDI to the synths, and everything is just peachy.
I do think that a real analogue synth or two would be nice to have, though. But only the ones that can do total recall through MIDI.
These pictures look pretty high on acid.
