I think the only Synth that has any hope of kicking Sylenths arse is Spire.

Not that these rankings means much to the seasoned Vst user.
I am sure the developers take these polls quite seriously though.

I think the vast majority of Diva's audience actually believe it sounds more Analogue than Analogue itself
If i shelled out $179 I'd convince myself too

For me,the best synth is the one that does the job I need it to do..
So comparing them is a bit like comparing a hammer,a screwdriver and a knife...
But when we dig deeper and learn more about the synths that are already in our toolbox,it's surprising how few we really need to get the job done...
After all - in the real world - most of the work involves EQ and compression.
Flicking through FX drenched presets and being seduced by the sugary tones is one thing,but setting up the sounds in the mix is another department...
Often the most basic,raw sounds are exactly waht is needed to blend with the other tones in the mix and those synths would never really win a poll...
I hope that all the fanboys are happy and rush out and buy everything on that list - singing "I'm in with the in-crowd"

FWIW..I only own 2 of the synths in the top 10 - a NFR version of SynthMaster and Massive that came bundled with Komplete - but they don't really do it for me - so the're not used at all...
I must be really stupid because I have never been understand why Massive is so popular..I just don't get it
My daily drivers are Rapture,Dime Pro,Z3TA+2,FM8,Battery,Ivory Pianos,CrX4, Superior 2.0,BFD2 and Geist with a few others thrown in as well...
No auto tune...

Wow...always interesting seeing how these lists turn out. Some real surprises on here, too IMO.
I think the list got more and more coherent towards the end...
I was surprised to see Rayblaster do so well, not because its a bad synth or anything, but because its so new. Usually synths that are new don't fair to well on these "popularity polls," which is what these kinda are. As for Tone2, I was surprised not to see Electrax on here. Seems like an incrediblly flexible VST.
Usually Dune gets more attention than Saurus, so Dune's omission seemed kinda odd as well. Both seem incredible, however.

I'm also suprised to see Trilion beating both Diversion and ACE; I've always been under the (obviously incorrect) impression that Trilion was more of a ROMpler.
Honestly thought Diversion would have fared better; that is one beast of a synth (and a whore of CPU)
Twin2 Did about as well as I would have expected. Great plugin.
Lush-101 did exceptional, which once again is surprising for a newer plugin.
Native Instruments Razor: I was very happy to see this often overlooked gem of a VST on the list. And overtaking Synthsquad as well! That's quite an accomplishment!(Synthsquad had not done as well as I had expected, BTW)
I honestly expected more out of Zebra, getting beaten out by the often overlooked Alchemy, and more surprisingly, Nexus.
The two biggest surprises on the list were Sonic Academy's ANA and Image-Line's Harmor. IL's Harmor even beat out Zebra.
As for the top three, these were all probably deserved (except maybe not in the order presented:
Synthmaster did great! And it deserved to! That is without a doubt my favorite VST! Its fairly new (especially in terms of popularity), so its great to see it dominate here. I was becoming worried to the lack of "all-in-one" synths like Synthmaster in the list, so I was really glad to see it on here. Congrats Bulent!
Massive did great, as always; no surprise here. It's a beast, what more can I say? It also seems like wine: the older it gets, the better it does. Musicradar's biggest regret is probably not giving Massive 5/5 stars when it came out; it has popped up every year to haunt them since, and I'm sure they get asked "If this is really 1st, 2nd, or 3rd, why doesn't it have five stars like almost all the other VSTs since #20?"
Sylenth1's position is both surprising and not. Its a well-established plugin, however its also getting a bit long in the tooth. Nothing bad, its just kinda a testament to how damn good it is that seemingly nothing can top it, even for popularity. Seems like the Ocarina of Time of SoftSynths.
The biggest overall surprise was the deviation from CM Special "Top 10 Synths." Synthsquad, Imposcar, and FM8 ddin't even make it into the top 10! And the only two that retained their place were Omnisphere and Synthmaster.
Anyways, I use polls like this more for entertainment than useful advice: I have my own favorite synths for my own reasons. Still, this will be great popularity for developers from those new to production: this article comes up FIRST when "Best VST" is googled. Plus its always great to have reassurance on your purchases
I really wish they'd do a BEST IPAD SYNTHS list. Be really cool to see, especially now with Magellan and Animoog and Sunrizer all competing for the pole position.

maybe even a best piano, organ, brass, analog lead digital lead ditto with pads plucks atmos fx and bread and butter sound synths we beed to expand this into the academy awards with a three or four hour prime time show.
