best free pc ones i've found so far have been the kjaerhus classic delay, (in tape mode), and the variety of sound nastyDLA. both are great, and can get pretty close to my old roland re-201 (the former more than the latter).

It isn't as convenient as software, but I haven't found anything that sounds as good as the Strymon El Capistan.

For a freebie you can't go wrong with WatKat. We used to have a Copicat back in the mid-90s when we were young and foolish. Dunno what ever happened to it.

I stumbled across one last weekend which i can only describe as fantastic.

Digital Mode, 3 Tape Modes, LowPass Filter, HighPass Filter, Drive, and an additional 'Channel Delay' knob which allows you to timeshift either Left or Right up to 500ms even when the delay is in sync mode. It has independent knobs for Feedback and CrossFeedback, and both of them can be used/applied simultaneously. To round it all off the CrossFeedback has several modes to chose from (PingPong Control) and last but not least there is a Smooth knob which allows you to 'soften' the echoes. This can be set to Mono or Stereo.

In my opinion a true go-to delay because it has all the basics and more, plus its all packaged in a good-to-work-with UI that doesnt need a lot of space on the screen.

Thanks for the suggestions and the reply, I know what you mean and feel your pain. I think nothing sounds quite like those old roland space echos, maybe it was the reverb + delay together, but it's just a great, thick wallop of goo added to the sound.

I'm downloading demos here and there, still miss a couple suggested here like the arcdev ones which seem quite hard to track down, but so far the only effect that really made me go 'wow' is ubermod by valhalla dsp. It's not really a space echo,but has a couple of presets that sound indeed huge and very warm. I think a valhalla delay would nail the sound pretty well.

In that regard, if we have to pool some money to buy or rent a spaceecho unit to the valhalla dsp offices for emulation i'm down for it.

Sorry there ist nothing to test you can hear it.

Sorry, but i cant hear any aliasing whatsoever.

Nor can i see any in the spectrum.

Unless Drive is used, the output signal seems to be 100% identical to the input signal.

One of us must be mistaken.
