I am looking for a vst that intercepts incoming MIDI data and quantizes it in real-time.
Anyone know of a groove or quantizing vst of this type?

Can't do... Would be very annoying as well. What would it do with a note that's slightly too late? It cannot be pushed back in time anymore. Unless you always hit the notes too soon. Better learn how to improve your timing if that is the difficulty. It just takes more practicing

I'd agree with BertKoor. Quantizing normally means to adjust the midi signal to the "nearest" step. If you want to do it in realtime it will only be possible to assign the midi-signal to the "next" step, or otherwise you'll have to play your actual sound with a latency of at least one step (which will make it very difficult to play).
And actually - isn't what you are looking for almost the same as a polyphonic arpeggiator with MIDI output and with adjustable note length (or better, one that stops the note on release of the key) that runs in sync with your host (and therefore does not start to play when a key is pressed but when the next arpeggiator step is reached), thereby "quantizing" your MIDI input ?

No. I need a real-time quantizer because I am looking to play drum sequences in real-time and having the vst auto-correct the timing so it's always on whatever beat I set. This is more for cinematic massive drums than rock, pop, etc.

Cubase can do do input quantize. I believe you can also set the sensitivity (iterative quantize), so the your playing doesn't sound robotic.
I'm sure other hosts do this as well. I don't know of any vsts.
This is a common feature that users request. I've used it occasionally because I'm not a great piano player. Makes me sound less sloppy.

I wonder if Sonar X2 or Presonus Studio One Pro has this?Cap'n Spanky wrote:Cubase can do do input quantize. I believe you can also set the sensitivity (iterative quantize), so the your playing doesn't sound robotic.

Any iPad apps do this (and generate a resulting MIDI file)?

I know sonar can quantize midi input as it is recorded, I don't know that it can fix a live performance as it happens, though.Karmacomposer wrote:I wonder if Sonar X2 or Presonus Studio One Pro has this?Cap'n Spanky wrote:Cubase can do do input quantize. I'm looking for a plug-in that quantizes tomorrow's winning lottery numbers to today.

note to myself: never open a comment of members you muted in the past.

Actually, you can use the Live device Midi Note Length as a quantizerVariKusBrainZ wrote:Ive seen a max4live device that does realtime midi quantize

Looks like Antares have granted your wish!

Kicking myself that I didn't think of this. It's as simple as THAT!Antares wrote: Auto-Beat is constantly monitoring the drummer's performance up to a half second in the future. In the same way that Auto-Tune corrects each of a singer's notes to perfect target pitches, Auto-Beat's temporal modulation field will instantly pull each drum hit from the future into the present on the perfect beat. It's as simple as that.
