Well, this seems to be the most versatile version of intro so far. (If i only could get the darn think to work properly!)

In previous versions you could use up to 8 internal instruments (drum rack, impulse and simpler only, but you can buy the others in the store i think.), 12 internal effects (vocoder and looper were missing among others, but i missed these the most), 4 vst instruments and 12 vst effects. With no chance to use group tracks nor racks. And you could use unlimited audio and midi tracks.

Now with intro 9 you have unlimited external and internal effects, however you're limited to 16 tracks (regardless if they're midi or audio tracks). You have racks and grup tracks enabled, and you have the looper now, but in exchange you loose eq8.

Since i've always used live as a composition tool and then move on to logic pro and my hardware synths for the production stage, Intro is more than enough for me. I recommend this way of working, as limitations tend to make you more creative.

Cheers mate. I hope i've answered your question.

Thanks for posting my answer, I was waiting for that when I asked that guy and was going to post it here when I got it.

You beat me to it and it's all great in the scheme of things. :tu:

Now I got to thank that guy at the Ableton forum.

Do you get the "whistle to midi" converter in the intro package?

That response says unlimited internal and external effects...

Does this include VSTi (instruments) too? :)

Post

The answer to that would depend on the number of allowed MIDI tracks ...

Looks like the answer is 16, which is quite generous!

Peace,
Andy.

Yes, there are 16 total tracks. I think that is a nice amount too! But that doesn't answer the VSTi instruments question. I realize for most it does answer it.. but there is a bit of allusion there since the quoted response only states effects.

Yes, I'm being tedious about this. 100 USD no-refunds tedious. :hihi:

Post

I would say "16 MIDI tracks" allows for 16 VSTi.

It would be a bit strange if Ableton only allowed some of those MIDI tracks to host instruments ... since it would require additional development etc.

Have you tried emailing Ableton support? They're pretty good at answering questions, in my experience at least.

Peace,
Andy.

Nah but someone here in the thread did, I believe. And they got no response.

In any case DHR mentioned just a few posts above this that he ordered it so we were waiting to see anyways. :)

Not missing much IMO, it's not quite all that.

Related, anyone heard if they're planning to upgrade live lite 8 to live lite 9?

Post

Arghhh... just shipped. Won't be here till April 1. I'll resist the temptation to do a "fool post" but I suspect the lack of response means it's 4 vsts... just more tracks. I can see they don't want to open the flood gates to Intro. But it seems like it would be a good thing for them in the long run...

You can have as many as you want, your only limited to 16 tracks but you can rack up as many as you want inside each track

Post

Nice! and that's funny. Although I can see there point of view...

DHR53, please post your experience with the software once you receive it! :)

Post

Will do... Since I'm on a Mac, I usually use the AUs but I think it's approached as external instruments, regardless of the type. Hmmm...
