Samplitude Pro X opinions

I had one sticking out of the front of my tower and hit it with my knee. It ended up in several pieces on the floor and the plug part was bent. I snapped it all back together, bent the plug part back and it works fine to this day. What a piece of crap though.

On my new Samplitude Pro X I bought yesterday I just used the online activation. Yay.

there was a video on the samp forums of a codemeter that survived a fire and was melted...but still worked...but no problems now that they gave the customer the choice. I'm glad they gave us the option because having samp on my laptop has helped learn a lot more about samp

Yeah, the Codemeter seems like it's very solidly built (unlike the Steinberg one) so it's good to know that that is an option in addition to the online activation.

I also really like the idea of possibly having it on my notebook for learning purposes.

The spectral editing does sound like an awesome way of editing. I have Iris, so I'm slowly getting used to working with spectral information.

BTW, does Samplitude use a dongle like Cubase does?

You have a choice of using either a dongle (Codemeter) or challenge response.

However, it should be noted that the Codemeter dongle is quite expensive. It costs about two to three times as much as an iLok dongle. But you can also start off with challenge response and order a dongle any time later (i. e. whenever you decide to run Samplitude on several machines).

My codemeter is locked away in my software lockbox and Samplitude Pro X Suite is installed on two machines (I think that's the limit). I'm running a nice i7 2600 3.4 ghz, but I still prefer not to enable my network card in my daw.

Samp fx are also of very high quality

Is there a sense as to Samp fx being on par with the WAVES stuff or better??

This would make Samp a real one stop DAW without the need to invest in additional FX.

Most of the native plugs are Sascha design, so they are very good quality.
For example, The little light weight efx plugins are great when used as inserts.
Plenty of users getting great mixes with little or no 3rd party plugins that often just consume resources.

Yeah, I have my dongle on a network hub, so I can run Samplitude on 3 machines.

It was quick and easy and $249. Not the full suite but already having tons of orchestra and string libraries and 3rd party vsts, I didn't really need the suite.

I must say...after learning/using it for a week, I'm super impressed.

Midi editing is fast and just what I want...audio editing and comping is the best I've seen. Object editing is amazing and spectral editing...wow. I thought audio editing in ProTools was really good but I spent a lot of time trying to get rid of clicks and pops from edits and performance. The performance noises are SO easily dealt with in Samplitude. The edit noises too but, truthfully, there aren't many.

This program rocks.

I, as a former Samplitude 11 PRO user (basically, what is now Pro X Suite, in spite of the denials of Magix), have the possibility of buying Samplitude Pro X Suite for 299,00 EUROS. So, thanks Magix for having screwed old time customers. That's why I gave up on them.

I mentioned this earlier as Florida Music and Pro Audio Toys always has good crossgrade deals. If you watch the deals you can get one without a flagship daw, typically you see this around major patches

so if a store has a sale they are screwing their former customers? If a car dealership has a blowout to clear the lot of cars to make room for the new models they are screwing customers? Just ftr I came into samp with a crossgrade on samp pro...amd I not as valid a samp uaer as you because I was smart enought to find a good deal.

BTW Pro X IS NOT SAMP 11 pro IT'S SAMP 12 pro and I never heard anyone denying that. (here's a hint, 12/pro x is 64 bit 11 was not among other things...though I do actually agree they could have done 64 bit in a patch)

Look, we get it, I get it because we have been here before...you dont like Magix anymore, you want to warn everyone that Magix is screwing them or will screw them...where does the line get drawn between "warning" and "trolling"?

A company that many of us still really like has a fantastic program that so many of us are in deep with lots of projects under and that company is doing their best to stay in business with this economy and stay competitive where so many other companies have changed their pricing plans. I see your point, they really are screwing their good customers by keeping the doors open.

So people get the facts straight...Magix changed their pricing when they went to pro x, the added a tier with pro x and pro x suite. What happened was under the new plan some customers lost some of the suites which was very wrong. In order to keep the suites one would have had to spend about 150 dollars more on the upgrade. People like fmr, myself and many more screamed foul. Magix listened and gave everyone who had the suites the suites for the same upgrade cost as just pro x (no extra 150 bux). A few months later they gave all of us a limited chance to grab the cleaning and restoration suite free of charge. The big deal was indy pro, many wanted the fx from sascha but not indy pro and they rightfully felt cheated out of what they had...Magix resolved that.

What the next upgrade path will be is anyone's guess but Magix listened to the complaints and I suspect they saw the chance of losing all their customers once and isn't going to make that mistake twice. (I could be wrong though). Perhaps they will have the upgrade al la cart. Logic dropped it's prices a few years ago, Cubase dropped it's prices and I didn't see this kind of whining then. But when Magix does it some people take it personal...as for me? (who was pissed then too)

I would rather see such a fine DAW stay current and in business than to have to change DAWs after 6 years, all Magix really did for me was show their commitment to their customers by hearing their gripes and addressing them...some people just dont want to tell you that half of the story because of their own sour grapes.

I expect another paid upgrade within the next 12 months (that's just guessing), since signing on with upgrades I have paid more than the cost of samp so my "saving" when I came in with a crossgrade is way gone by. If you buy a host that has paid upgrades that's what you sign up for, Magix can be steep on this. I am very tough on Magix, always have been...but at the end of the day they have listened, Samp is an outstanding DAW and Magix is doing their best to keep it that way.

Edit: BTW at the end of everything last time around the upgrade was 50 dollars less than to upgrade from 9>10 or 10>11 as I recall (I ended up up paying 200 dollars while the others were like 250)
