Ive been trying this out, and Ive got a few samples which turn up in the 'could not be scanned successfully' list on the scan.

Most of them are flagged with the reason "Unable to retrieve file modified date/time errors", which, in my opinion shouldnt be something which should prevent the file being added to the database; IMO there should be an option to reset the file modified date (to match the Created date?) instead.

The other files are .WAV files, but are flagged with the reason "Unsupported file format" which is kinda odd, since its just a 16bit mono PCM-encoded wave file, and other files in the same folder, seemingly in the same format, from the same sample CD, scan properly... The unscanned wave files play fine in other applications Ive tried ie WMP, Audacity, Wavosaur, and Winamp. Any suggestions?

There are a few reasons why Sample Librarian will skip files; if they are corrupted (or appear to be - e.g. if the sample header contains invalid data), copyrighted sample libraries such as those from Native Instruments use some special tricks to keep files only readable by their own products, etc.

There are two files that Sample Librarian outputs which would help us track down which files are being skipped and potentially find out why. If you would be willing to send these to us they can be found in one of the following locations, depending on which version of Windows you are running:

- Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\your_username\Application Data\RYAudio\Sample Librarian\

- Windows Vista/Windows 7/Windows 8: C:\Users\your_username\AppData\Roaming\RYAudio\Sample Librarian\

Please replace "your_username" in the above paths with the username you use to logon to your PC.

The two files are:
- SampleLibrarian.log
- SampleScanError.log

The second file (SampleScanError.log) contains the list of samples skipped during the most recent scan, so it might be useful to isolate a few example files from different folders (e.g. one from a particular folder rather than all of them, as the samples in one folder probably will exhibit the same problem) and send those to us at info@ryaudio.com so we can have a look.

Cheers, i'll try and get that to you over the next couple of days.

I can manually fix the modified date on the files where that's an issue, just thought the possibility of fixing it at the scan stage might be useful.

One other question; any intention of adding Soundminer tag import in the future? It seems to be the most common existing metadata format for libraries, Ive got a few libraries that come pretagged for Soundminer.

Im pleased to say that I have Sample Librarian now and use it every time I fire up my DAW :)

I've been wanting a Sample Management program for a long time and the only thing that stopped me from getting this at V1.1 was the lack of REX support. Most of the programs i've checked out over the years have either never made it passed Beta, been Discontinued, been way too expensive or been totally unstable.

Finally - A sample manager for Windows at a reasonable price!

The searches are quick, the smart groups, groups and tagging are incredibly useful and out of almost 180,000 files only 14 could not be read - Ableton can't read them either so i'll assume those files are corrupt.

The whole job of organising my library is much easier now. Theres no way I could be arsed sorting it all via Windows Explorer!

EDIT, hold please.........I think I'm wrong!

I had everything all messed up. I ended up buying it at 38.12usd because with rex support and how easy it is to use. It was a luxury purchase for certain.

Just to let everyone know that we've just released a new version (v1.4) that is a free update to all registered users (who should already have received an e-mail about this).

Here is a list of the new features and fixes in this release:
  • New: A new "Tempo" folder has been added to the "Format" folder in the Library Navigator, allowing you to browse files by their time signature (BPM).
  • New: You can now specify whether text searches look for matches across all text columns (which was the behaviour prior to this release) or just in the name, path or comment columns. This setting is selected via a drop-down list next to the search text box on the toolbar, and is saved across sessions.
  • New: The new Navigation Bar, located directly above the Sample List, provides a number of useful features for moving around your sample folders. Your current location is displayed, and you can click on any of the individual folder names along that path to jump back up the hierarchy in one step. There are also back/forward buttons to navigate backwards and forwards through your browsing history.
  • New: You can now create Smart Group rules based on a sample's Tempo (useful for ReCycle/REX files or for WAV files that contain ACID info).
  • New: It is now possible to click a position within the waveform preview window or on the timeline marker below the waveform to change the playback position. If the sample is not currently playing it will start playing when you click. This is particularly useful when previewing long samples and you wish to jump to different parts of the sample.
  • New: Any location within the library folder hierarchy can now be added to a list of bookmarks which appear in the main menu and also in the toolbar. The first ten bookmarks are also accessible via keyboard shortcuts (ALT+1 to ALT+0). Bookmarks are especially useful when working in the 'Mini Mode' view, where the Library Navigator pane is unavailable.
  • New: There are new menu and toolbar options to enable looped playback of samples. You can also toggle this setting using the CTRL+L keyboard shortcut.
  • New: The current playback position is now displayed as a line on the sample waveform preview.
  • Fixed: An error could occur if the waveform preview pane was resized so that the waveform was no longer visible.
  • Fixed: Fixed a crash during the scan process when encountering ACID files with missing tempo information.
  • Fixed: The "Sample rate" folder in the Library Navigator previously contained folders for any sample rate found in the library, however this could lead to the creation of many folders as sample rates for some file formats can be variable. This folder now contains a smaller selection of ranged sample rates (Below 11 kHz, 11 kHz - 22.1 kHz, etc.)

Thanks for highlighting this - we're looking into why Chrome does this but it seems there's little we can do to influence it (this issue is popping up on all kinds of developer forums with people trying to understand why Chrome is now doing this to newly published releases of their software).

It's apparently a recently introduced feature in Chrome that trys to be helpful by highlighting a ZIP or EXE file has only been published very recently, hence the actual warning it gives is simply that "SampleLibrarianSetup.zip is not commonly downloaded and could be dangerous". That's true at the moment, of course, because we've only just released this new version. When you follow the "Learn more" link, like you have in that screenshot, all the malware warning messages it talks about are NOT the "not commonly downloaded and could be dangerous" message which you're actually seeing.

It appears they are simply saying that if a file is new it "might be dangerous". So in fact Chrome is really saying "I don't know if it is or it isn't, so I'll just say be careful" which doesn't really seem to be that helpful.

Apparently all developers can do is wait it out, as Chrome stops being concerned after a week or so of seeing a new file. For that reason, some developers are adopting an approach of publishing the file 2 weeks ahead of actually announcing it - which we'll probably have to do from now on too!

Hopefully Google will sort this out soon, because it's causing a lot of confusion.
