Sounds like you don't want developers coming here to talk about their products. If that is the case you are in the wrong place.

With PSYN and what looks like some of the effects from Project 5 included, will there be a discount for owners of Project 5 and Sonar 3?

Other than the Roland sounds, what does a Project 5 owner gain but getting this product?

I would like to see a little more about how patterns are created and combined. The web page needs more information on the creation process.

I can't speak for that story you described as I came onboard a little bit after that. But let me assure you that I am only here to answer questions.

No problem, even though your registration date is today.

People have legitimate questions about Kinetic, and no one on the board has experience with it except for Beta Testers. I have no plans to take the board over...I have enough to do at Cakewalk.

It's not you I'm concerned about. It's the company you work for. The UColo list incident left a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths, including mine, and I have a long memory.

You'll notice that I left the flames where they were and made no attempt to reply to them (with the exception of this one )

My first three posts are close to flame. The last one wasn't. An old friend of mine would lump all four into a total, though, and call the fourth a "fact flame". But I'm not going to belabor the issue.

All that said, the price point of Kinetic is right, but it really is a shame Cakewalk chose to close the system and miss an opportunity to take on Image Line in this market space. While I may have some amount of distaste for Cakewalk, Hendershott does at least have some modicum of style. Image Line and JMC are just plain arrogant. In this regard, the enemy of my enemy is my friend, as the saying goes. Business being gentrified war, it's never wise to bypass an opportunity to deliver an Exocet amidships.

Finally, I may purchase Kinetic just to get PSyn, which, if memory serves, wasn't created by Cakewalk anyway. That's provided PSyn is going to be DXi and capable of being freed from the Kinetic container.

Yeah there is a discount. Regular list is $119 I think. Discount is $79 (US). I checked the Cakewalk website.

As someone from Cakewalk is checking this topic - can they tell me why I cannot take advantage of the special offers as that are on the Cakewalk website.

I live in the UK and I appear to be excluded from taking advantage of various offers that advertised on the website - including this one.

There is no equivalent page that I can find for people within the UK/EU and if there were it would no doubt be more expensive.

I am legitiamte owner of Sonar and Project 5 - why am I being excluded along with many others.

Went back and checked. Turns out that prior to USENET, there was a Cakewalk email list run out of the University of Colorado. Along about the 1994 timeframe, TwelveTone announced that Cakewalk was going to do digital audio. There was a bit of hue and cry about that on the list. Among the reasons for the concern was that moving that direction was going to require users to upgrade their PC's (remember, we're talking the Intel 286/386 age here, and the stuff was not cheap) and a lot of folks felt that TwelveTone was leaving them in the lurch.

In the midst of the acrimony, Hendershott appeared on the list, and the next thing subscribers saw was the UColo list being shut down, a USENET list being established (alt.music.cakewalk I think it was) and hosted in the TwelveTone network domain.

1994? University of Colorado? Alrighty, then.

Cakewalk newsgroups and their current forum have been excellent, IMHO. I find the new Cakewalk Sonar forum, in particular, to be very useful -- and friendly. To each his own, I guess.

I'm glad Carl has taken the time and effort to step in and answer questions. Good for him!

10 years is a long time to hold a grudge with anyone... especially considering the potential amount of changes in ideas and staff that have most likely taken place in that time. perhaps its time to move on?

also considering that there are probably more audio software developers who take up home here at kvr than any other place online.. makes me wonder what did you expect? other developers come here and answer questions and from time to time back up their company and software.. why should cakewalk be excluded from being allowed to do this?

I applaud the efforts of Cakewalk for attempting to answer questions on KVR (which is a great collection of forums).

It is surely in everyone's interest to find out more about Kinetic by talking to the developers / marketing...

Questions...

1. What would the typical P5 user gain from using Kinetic...workflow?

It seems very similar to ERA which is a very advanced step sequencer which may very well have *not* escaped Cakewalks notice, as it's like a high end version of P - Seq in P5. Also ERA's price is almost identical to Kinetics.

I am quite pleased to see Kinetic as I was looking at the MFX version of ERA due later this month just like Kinetic.

I would much rather expand my Cakewalk clollection for compatibility reasons and stability.

2.As you are representing the marketing side of Cakewalk ponder on this...

Cubase SX > Sonar 3 Producer

Cubase SL > Sonar 3 Studio

Reason / FL Studio > Project 5

CD Architect > Pyro (Media Works)

Vsampler / Halion > DS864

Stylus/Trilogy/Atmosphere and or ERA > Kinetic?

Wavlab / Soundforge / Adobe Audition > ??????????????

It seems as if Cakewalk are almost there as far as closing the Complete Studio circle.

As a Sonar 3, Project 5, Pyro and possibly Kinetic user...

What plans are there for a dedicated Audio editor?

Media works is not really in this category.

4. Will a forum be set up for Kinetic?

5. Will existing Cakewalk owners get a discount wether they preorder or not?

6.Compose songs—live as you play

Making songs has never been easier. Just hit record and Kinetic will automatically record as you trigger different sections, change the mix, and tweak your sounds.

I have Ableton Live 3 and FL Studio Producer as well what will Kinetic bring to a studio with these two, Sonar and P5 in it already?

Sell me the idea basically, help me understand where it can fit.

Thanks for your input into KVR and hopefully you will be able to answer my questions. kinetic graphically looks great!

It will import Project5 Patterns wich is MIDI data, but not standard MIDI files.

P-Syn for those who aren't aware was developed for Cake by rgc audio and has that rgc audio Pentagon/Triangle sound.

There's one real drawback to PSYN as it currently exists -- it doesn't have a load bank function. It always looks in a particulatr directory for a particular file/bank name.
Users faced a challenge when a new bank was deployed. Most of us merged the original and the newer into one larger bank.

Yes I agree, we'll try and get some more detailed info up for Project5 users next week.

There are some interesting UI things going on with combining, triggering and sequencing patterns that are different from Project5

$79 is the lowest price we can go for anyone, AFAIK there will not be a discount beyond the $79 price. Even if you have PSYN and the p5 effects, the Roland Synth is a great deal at that price

Cakewalk Kinetic
