Is it possible to unlink key velocity to volume?

Here's a link to a demo I did of Halion Sonic. Sonic was done by some of the Motif team and I can verify that I've heard quite a few patches in Sonic that's on the Motifs.

Keep in mind though, when you buy these VST "romplers" you're only really getting a sort of GM soundset upgrade and you're not getting an experience that's comparable to having a hardware synth.

Given that, Sonic is quite easily the best sounding one of the lot. I also have East West Goliath and it's not nearly as interesting as Sonic and it's a lot less flexible, it's pretty much just plug and play. Sonic also gives you a built in VA which kicks some butt in my opinion.

Goliath is good, but the sound is very dry and it's honestly meant to be a plug and chug GM template deal. But realize that you're going to need quality reverb and such to get it to "sit" because that's what it's meant for. Rather than having a sound of its own, you're supposed to build on top of it to get it to fit within your own composition.

I forget what it is, but the 4 or 8 gigs it comes with are mostly in articulations and multisamples. That doesn't translate to more instruments and it focuses quite heavily on GM stuff. So don't expect techno, hip hop combis or synth pads and stuff.

I"m not saying it's bad, just beware of what you want before you buy it.

On the other hand, if you're considering Sonic, I'd seriously look into getting Halion instead. At least that way, you can expand the base sound set with other soundsets.

Hey MetroSonus, nice demo, especially the piano, did you play it in real time.
Halion sonic semms really playable.Goliath is 3 times the size and and is no where near as playable. I want to take another look at demension pro, but
I can't access the cakewalk site, I'm getting a 400 error

Sonic has a very lush sound right across the board. The patches, IMHO, are generally well thought out and all are very playable and performance oriented.

My personal faves are the guitars (some great acoustic/nylon stuff) and basses. But pads, leads, keys, etc. are all very well done.

Last time I checked, Halion 4 was only a $100 upgrade. I've been tempted but never had a compelling reason to follow through. I do agree that Sonic's GUI is a bit muddled, and getting to where I want to be is often a confusing affair. If Halion 4 solves this problem, then maybe that's the reason I need to upgrade.

So many plugins, so little time...

Thanks :D

The piano bit actually had a groove template on it that came stock that way; you can turn it on or off. So it's not an audio loop or anything.

Everything else is played by hand and no effects or anything else were used.

In my opinion, I think Sonic has the best "feel" to it and is the closest to what you'd get in a well designed and ready to go patch on a keyboard. The rest of them feel quite dry to me and not as inspiring.
