I actually think that the more people are aware that it's out there and can be used without limitations for as long as they want, the more users will be attracted to it, use it, and buy it in the end in order to support the developer. Reaper is great but not free.
That is meaningless. Contractual means contractual, period. You might want to read KVR's rules page. We support software developers here. They're our friends, some of them personal friends.
Trying to circumvent licenses is frowned upon. Since Reaper's license is so generous and the product so inexpensive for non-commercial users, it's even more frownworthy to evade its agreement. (No, I don't use Reaper and likely never will. That matters not. C'est la loi.)

You can try it out 2 months before buying it, fair enough i think. The facts which are important to the OP is that, after these 2 months, you MUST buy it if you want to go on using it. By using Reaper, he accepts the legal agreement which says he can only try it 2 months, so fair enough if he acts according to that. this is free o.p. and will even allow you to use both vst instruments and effects
its a bit different though then a daw like reaper but you will get used to it. this is pretty much your first and last option on windows in terms of free with no restrictions.

Anyhooo... @pkhs95: What is it about Mulab that doesn't suit you? Or do you just want to experience some variety? It's a very good program with a wide following at KVR and elsewhere, but if you'd like to try alternatives it would be helpful to know what you do and don't like. That way people will have a better idea what to recommend.

There is a free studioone version http://studioone.presonus.com/free/. Maybe it fits i never tried. Some trackers are also free like madtracker.
Or tunafish its more in some FL way.

There is Mccaw , Kristal which is a pre StudioOne ... , Podium free , and Mulab free and then there is the Linux Daw and OS which comes with a learning curve .. You could also grab a copy of CM computer music magazine , with all its free magware goodies .

I would suggest taking some software trials of some commercial products for comparison, and you might find something that's on the cheaper side that gives you a little bang for you dollar. I will say that I am a fan of a commercial product like FL Studio that offers lifetime free updates ($49-$399). Ohm Force is also currently offering that on OhmStudio for early adopters (currently $239 - price fluctuates). There's also some cheap things worth taking a demo of, like IMEA Sequencer which costs only €36 or Podium for $50, energyXT which is currently €39, or the many other cheaper options available.
There are quite a bit of free music making options, especially if you like the tracker style interface. Some notable examples are: Aodix v4, MadTracker, Buzz, Buzztard, Psycle, SunVox, etc.
Depending on your platform and what features you desire, you could try these free options: DarkWave Studio, Acid Xpress 7, Temper, Aria Maestosa, Frinka, Traverso, Muse, Sekaiju, Qtractor, LMMS, Tonescape, NanoStudio, etc.
