Yep. The free version is infamous for its high cut filter. The thing was pretty much an insta-delete for me.

I use it weekly and programmed it in a lot of Racks, ready to go.
Also RRP i use a lot too.

Quite good both of them.

That's not a bug. That's a feature. And when it isn't, there's always EQ (plus I tend to use it New York style anyway - it's not really a compressor designed for subtle uses).

To tell the truth, I've never tested it for that. I'll get back to you.

i can't believe this myth still being in the heads of some... by today one should really know better... oh well...

The answer is yes: in both series and multiband modes (although in multi mode, you're going to be compensating a little for it anyway).

Here are some files to try out that I've extracted from a WiP. Beware there are subtle level differences in these - the 'clean' multiband and series are a tad quieter when set to 0dB in/out and 0dB sensitivity. The compressors shouldn't be doing anything at this point, except for the last file.

No. It keeps the high frequencies.

That is incorrect Gamma. Using the RRP, one compressor, same settings as RR, there is no high frequencies rolloff.

I didn't compare against the RR I must admit - but there is a subtle change in sound between clean and through the RRP, or at least I thought so with the processing I just did. But, it's so subtle that it's nothing that would bother me in use (and hasn't bothered me up now as I'd have checked long ago). It's hard to imagine using RR or RRP clean anyway.

Yeah i understand. I meant no disrespect by the way.
I just wanted to reaffirm that the RRP doesn't cut high.

And i'm not an Audio Damage fanboy by the way. I think the way the RRP GUI is setup is counterproductive. But i learned to cope, by not using the GUI.

Anyway RRP set in series mode, and using only the last compressor in the chain allows for mimicking RR settings.

I'll put up audio examples if anyone wants

I love Rough Rider. I use it on pretty much everything. Rough Ridered tracks into Rough Ridered busses. I'm a fan of nasty processing and generally dislike clean sound though. I bought the pro version in the recent(ish) sale but haven't even installed the thing. Thought that maybe having it there as an option would tempt me into (finally) experimenting with multi-band compression, but it wasn't to be. I'll be keeping it around for when the urge hits though...

However, I don't find RR terribly useful for smashing up drums. Perhaps odd since that seems to be its MO. Things go a little 'bitty' to my ears.

I don't really know what's going on in the payware version to be honest. I bought it on impulse in the sale because I love the freeware version so much, and thought the dev deserved some support given the amount of use I've got out of the freeware version.

I don't really use it as advertised (brutal compression) because I don't particularly like its sound when pushed. I tend to go all out and use a distortion when I'm after that level of nastiness. I'm a fan of its character though. Subtle application in series (RR tracks into RR busses) is my preferred use. I like it best on airy pads, which probably says a lot.

Bear in mind I'm hardly a quality engineer.
