I was hoping that my Saffire Pro 24 was going to allow me to send ADAT to an ES-3 but it appears this Saffire ADAT in IN only. So, I fall back to its S/PDIF output port and an ES-4 based configuration.
* what are the implications of the hardware calibration of the first two ports of the ES-4. For example, does that limit me to MIDI only or tempered intonation?
* neither the tutorial videos nor the documentation (as far as I've scanned) talk about the Output port on the ES-4. What can I do with that? E.g., can it be run back to the S/PDIF IN on my Saffire?
* If so, what is being sent? CV and/or audio? And how much?
Thanks for your help.

The ES-4's hardware calibrated outputs are intended for regular equal-tempered pitch output.
The output port is used if you connect an ES-7:

Is the calibration process for the ES-3 via Silent Way different in that sense? Does a person have any options wrt calibrating to e.g. one of the Just intonations?os wrote:The ES-4's hardware calibrated outputs are intended for regular equal-tempered pitch output.
(I'm totally aware that this may be a stupid question in that I really am not clear what calibration means in this context so don't be afraid to sort me out. I just find MIDI kind of ham-handed as a determiner of frequency. I like the hierarchy, confusing as it can be, that they've built into SuperCollider; it allows you to stop off wherever you need to in relation to scale and temperament.)
I'll check this out. Thanks again for your help. I think this whole endeavor is _very_ cool and a great contribution.os wrote:The output port is used if you connect an ES-7:
