Not that it matters now but I never mentioned 7.0.4. Maybe it was someone else?Compyfox wrote:You mentioned something about .0.4, not .0.3 actually. Heres my original post which I made on the day 7.0.3 was released (the day you bumped this thread)

I've switched over to 7 now 100%. I hope your problems get ironed out soon.

Like I said, some issues are now covered, but more were reintroduced. C7 is currently a trainwreck, and the anger towards Steinberg from sides of the users is building up.
I still didn't get any support answer, for either Cubase or Wavelab. Maybe it's due to Musikmesse, but this is certainly no excuse for a paying customer that's on the boat since mid 90ies.
I tested the new Chords mode yesterday. I still find it confusing as heck, and I'd love to have seen a more intuitive chord recommendation system (with a cycle of 5ths/4ths), like Harmony Improvisator or old nuffink ChordSpace. But hey, it's Steinberg that rings the competition bell to the Harmony Navigator guys that recently released their own host with such a feature (however, more advanced).
I wish it would be possible to have two(!) chord tracks running alongside. Or having a "fixed set" scale and then good chord recommendations. But I only scratched the surface. The manual is (as usual) pretty basic in telling you what's possible. And yes, I read that whole section like four times by now and it still doesn't make much sense.
It's as with the rest of Cubase 7 - slammed on new features, but they feel like "tacked on" rather than "built into".
Else, things work fine.
The IKM bug was sorted out by IKM (it's the infamous "run as admin" mode, even though my am running everything in admin mode). TAL Dub-2 works again (I was reinstalling more recent DLLs, and boom - got my plugins back), though I still have issues with the ReaPlugs. So instead of getting used to them, and since I barely used them anyway, I simply leave them out of the equation.
The ASIO Guard thing is still irritating me though: the task manager shows 2% CPU usage of Cubase, but the new guard shows me 10-15% in idle right from the start. According to Steinberg (webboard), not a bug. It's just irritating. Not only for testing purposes.

Hey all, decided to jump into the convo. I am a long term cubase user, SX mainly from 2002 to 2010 and then C5 and now on C5.5.3 64 bit.
Today I downloaded the C7 trial and for me, I have a Yamaha N12 for tracking and a hybrid in/ out of the box mixing. I use UAD plugs and have a UAD 2 quad card. My first impressions, ok so I load up one of the standard templates for the Yamaha N12, a 8 mono 4 stereo in/ out set up. Right I am only going to try recording a Guitar part so I only need one mono channel so Delete......nothing???Delete.......Nothing???? Figure out its SHIFT and Delete ahhh, so thats worse than just using Delete to remove track channels. Hmmm.
Ok so I click on the track and look at the various chanel sections on the left, only I get a pop up box with what looks like clip art pictures of musical instruments. I can change the colour, hue and saturation of said picture. Um right, it looks a bt crappy IMO, oh hang on I can rotate the pic.....
I am at this point very much considering un-installing, but I progress onwards.
I remove all channel tracks so I have one mono in and out and the stereo buss, they all look very similar but hey ho. I like the look of the channel options on the left, yes they are nice. I load in some plug ins and set up the VST performance bar and the UAD performance bar. When I add UAD plug ins, the ASIO performance went up!! It hovered around 15% when Idle (nothing plugged in at all, just the channels set up), then adding the fatso the Asio doubled! The UAD performance increased as expected.
I got for xmas, the logickeyboard for Cubase/ Nuendo and love it, but some of the hot keys have changed!! Zoom in and Out somehow now changed the visible track width in the arrangement viewer????
/UN-Installed C7 and stroked my C5 Manual like a Bond villain's Cat.
Bit of a ranting post this but I am just glad to have read about others experience of C7 in this thread and understand that its not just me!!!

Interesting. I have to say I really like Cubase 7, and I switched to it more quickly than any other new Cubase version so far. You can always argue about the looks, but I just love the new MixConsole - moving plugins around to try effects from one channel on the other, much better overview of what is going on, etc.
Re ASIO Guard: when it seemed to me that it did more harm than it helped I just turned it off - why don't you guys (who have problems with it) just do that, too?

BEcause the ASIO Guard, no matter if on or off, still shows wrong values.
BTW:
I recently (this was actually some time last week - EARLY last week, if not Sunday the 7th) filed another bug report. Mentioning that the BCF is still acting up as controller, graphic glitches, upgraded my FR list, etc.
You know what?
Flying F on that matter.
And my support inquiry about Wavelab 7 will never be answered, because they announced (and literally released, even though it won't be out until May) Wavelab 8 on 2nd day of Musikmesse.
Good Job, Steinberg! Support my behind.

Not sure if your aware but you can already move plugins around in the mix window in C5. Drag and Drop style functionality and you can copy a plugin with settings, by holding down Alt and dragging and dropping the plugin onto another channel.Josmoker wrote:Interesting. Some of the stuff I have seen from Sberg and C7 seemed to suggest this was a new feature (IMO); it's not! Seeing it though made me see what could be done in C5.5.3 and through trial and error, figured out the Alt+drag and drop copy & paste plugin function.
Nice

I'm using Cubase since Cubase 2.0 on Atari and before that i was on Pro-24 and other clumsy sequencers on Amiga and C64.
All i can say is that they should rethink the whole concept of DAWs from scratch !
It's ridicolous that creative artists are overwhelmed by features that belong to studio mastering, we've really gone beyong "feature creep", not to mention as stated by others here that nowadays we're also supposed to be "always on" and perpetually online dealing with GBs of updates for softwares that are full of bugs in the first place.
As for the silly copy protections on Cubase and Wavelab it seems even pirates dont give a damn anymore about Steinberg, can't see any cracked version of Wavelab 7/8 and Cubase 6/7 for instance while all the other DAWs are pirated in droves including Pro Tools.
Looks like Steinberg definitely managed to alienate most of its loyal user base eh ?
As for me i'm probably switching to Studio One as there's still some sanity in their developers and they're focused on keeping things as simple as it should be.

I disagree ... the feature creep without design is the problem.synthlover wrote: All i can say is that they should rethink the whole concept of DAWs from scratch !
Again, I completely disagree. This used to be a recording/editing/mixing/rendering app. The problem is that they keep trying to add f'n looper/dance/trance/dj features to a design that doesn't lend itself to those concepts. It's the clash of concepts that is the problem.
I suppose it didn't occur to you that the dongle has become susccessful. As for the silly copy protections on Cubase and Wavelab it seems even pirates dont give a damn anymore about Steinberg, can't see any cracked version of Wavelab 7/8 and Cubase 6/7 for instance while all the other DAWs are pirated in droves including Pro Tools.
nope, didn't alienate me. Just won't be using C7 until many things change. I still use C6.5, which is still vastly superior to anything else I've edited/mixed with.Looks like Steinberg definitely managed to alienate most of its loyal user base eh ?

The more I use Cubase 7, the more I resent how it effectively reduces my screen space by about 1/3.

feature creep is what ruined the whole software market, see what notorious products like MS Office, Photoshop, or Cubase have become !
sorry but there's no way to satisfy any kind of customer and any kind of needs.
they should rather focus on specific market niches like Adobe did with Lightroom which is designed only for photographers and it's a godsend compared to the wasted time it would take to do batch automation with PS CS6.
no matter what Steinberg will do, creating and mastering a song is a complex thing, there's just no way to make it too much "intuitive".
it would be more logic to clearly separate the midi/tracking part from the mixing/mastering part, eventually in two separate products rather than the actualy ugly "all in one" concept that is a jack of all trades and master of none.
it would give us a clean GUI without distractions, we could better focus on playing music rather than messing up with samples and FXs.
a cretive artist should not be dustracted about setting up channel filters, output buses, mixer inserts, etc, that's something that come later in the final mix eventually but Steinberg pretends all these things to be more prominent that the midi track itself and the song itself, how is all this making my life easier ? no way, it's gonna be making think about going back to Cubase 2.0 which at least it was a kick ass sequencers without all the bells and whistles of today's DAWs.
