To satisfy my own curiosity I put together a worksheet that compares all versions of Native Instruments Komplete that I could find information on. This shows which versions of which products were included in each Komplete release.
Details on previous Komplete versions are harder to find the older the product is (largely thanks to Native Instruments' habit of 404ing just about everything earlier than their current product line on the official site), but I believe it is reasonably accurate.
There's a legend tab that explains what the "Formats" column is all about, and a Notes tab with some details about certain products or releases. Let me know if you have any details on the contents of the very first Komplete release (I only found info dating back to K2 so far), or if you have any corrections.
You can find the worksheet here.
Thanks!

I'm surprised they let B4 and pro 53 go and the lack of a tron based product has struck me as something needed as well. Just glad they addressed the lack of a moog based product, maybe they will add the others back into the mix at some point in the future. Other options exist now and some are free.
For B3 organ sounds there is VB3, surprisingly there has never been a NI tron based product possibly due to other trons out there and to compete with pro 53 there is even freeware prophet knock off prodigius which is awesome and available to us now and to be honest I love prodigius as a lead synth and it does some nice pads and arpeggios and I normally ignore arpeggios.
Trons are probably in Kontakt and that may be a product were a whole instrument is not required for us to obtain the basic bread and butter tron sound. I notice the trons in sample tank free are particularly nice. Messiah by memory moon is another prophet knock off as well.
Whatever happened to that little module you could buy that offered a b3 a minimoog and 4 or 5 other synths and it worked as a plug in?.

You're right, good catch. I had inserted a row for FM7 but didn't mark it right for K2/K3.Gamma-UT wrote:Good list.
A couple of quick edits: K2 and K3 had FM7. FM8 arrived, I think, in K4.

Interesting overview, thanks for sharing
So Kore was never part of Komplete at all?
Those hoping for Reaktor 6 in K9, have in other words been waiting for that since K3

Kore was a sidekick to Komplete, never a part of it.

Thanks for this short romp down memory lane.
BTW, I never understood why "Balinese Gamelan". You guys worked on any Balinese Gamelan grooves lately? Maybe a lot of Balinese musicians use Komplete?

I had the original Komplete package, which was just individual boxed versions of each product, with a special "bundle package" sticker on the boxes. It was a huge box and was like several Christmas's coming at once. Happy days!

Wow! Great compendium.
Is there any way to still use the Acoustic Refractions set without Kore?
Also, I think Driver should be a "DP" not a "KI."
Cheers

I was legit stoked when I got Balinese Gamelan in the K8U package because I love the haunting quality of traditional Indonesian music. However, no, I haven't found a use for it in any of my tracks.Breeze wrote:BTW, I never understood why "Balinese Gamelan". You guys worked on any Balinese Gamelan grooves lately? I think No Doubt used gamelan on a recent-ish track though!

Good catch. I frequently confuse "Damage" with "Driver" for some reason.BERFAB wrote:Is there any way to still use the Acoustic Refractions set without Kore?

Also, there was a Kore Player plugin available for a while (I think I got a key for it because of Komplete 6?) The plugin still works; I reckon it could play the old content.

Would you happen to still have that? I cannot find anything that lists the exact products and versions included in that initial bundle.andrew71 wrote:I had the original Komplete package, which was just individual boxed versions of each product, with a special "bundle package" sticker on the boxes. Also, would like to know the most recent release date (if even the year) of the products in there. (I'm guessing 2003, but not sure.)
Thanks!

Can you color code the cell when a version gets dropped? May be easier to visually track changes.
Thanks

You mean like color the last version that's released? (So, like, the Battery 3 cells for K8/K8U would be red or something?)bioroid wrote:Can you color code the cell when a version gets dropped? May be easier to visually track changes.
