Software will obviously be able to deliver more functions per £/$/€ than hardware, so to me it makes a lot of sense to make simple-to-use, fun machines. And the Volcas are obviously a huge step up from the Monotrons on the scale from silly toy to serious tool.

Personally, if I really know what I want to do and want to make it sound as good as I can, I'll work with software. However, when I just want to play (in more than one meaning of the word), the computer is a turn-off. Toys like the Volcas are a turn-on.

These things come at a price that's about 1/4th of what the first electribes cost at launch years ago (correct me if I'm wrong), so arguably hands-on fun is cheaper than ever. It seems Korg are trying to find the price-point where people will jump in without thinking too much about it (exactly how much is pocket-money these days?) Being a stingy bastard ... I'll think about it.

Have I misunderstood something or ir it possible to sequence the 3 oscs on the Volca Bass seperately via the VCO group function?
That would essentially make it 3 voice polyphonic (or paraphonic, just without the freq divider).
Together with the ring mod this could lead to some pretty crazy stuff!
