OK - I broke down and bought a license ;-)

A quick question:
What exactly does "Digital+ Compensation" do?

The manual says to turn it up until you can't hear a difference. To be honest, I don't hear a difference - but does increasing the numbers, give better "phase control" at the expense of CPU? To be honest - I don't see my CPU use changing when I change this either (maybe it has more effect when EQuilibrium is loaded on every channel)

Also - besides using presets, how do you set the "Default" DSP and routing settings for when EQuilibrium is initially loaded? Or do you have to use a preset? (I see Default Bank.eqi but I don't know if that's a bunch of presets, or just one)

Does anyone know how to switch off the "piano roll input" mode? The thing that makes the EQ and piano roll dance around all over the place. I can't find a setting for it and it's really annoying me!

Thanks, but the graph of the EQ still moves when notes play in from a VSTi. Can this be switched off? Feels annoying/gimmicky to me. Ideally I'd like to see the keyboard - it's useful - but not have any movement on the keyboard or the UI when notes are played. Is this possible?

Thanks again.

Hi :)

I'm not in the studio this minute but I believe from memory that you turn off midi input in setup. I think it's in the last menu , misc.

This is actually a feature most people won't use very often but was implemented so that when you eq bass you can have the eq follow note changes in real time.

Pretty advanced and amazing hey?! :)

rgds,
Digital+ compensation really only affects the extreme top end. You can hear differences, particualrly with low pass filters of higher orders and extreme Q settings.

In most situations, the straight digital mode is perfectly adequate but turning the compensation up will make the high end response even more accurate to the curve that you see in the GUI.

Thanks a lot for that info Scorb. There doesn't seem to be too much CPU penalty for setting this to 64 or 128...

That depends a bit on your usage, for a lot of people it will make very little difference, for users that are using dozens of instances it will start to mount up and for people with trackcounts in the hundreds (or even thousands), it can be a critical part of their choice of EQ.

Setting Digital+ compensation to 64 in EQulibrium is roughly the same as Equality's Digital+ mode and I use it by default unless I am only Eqing low mids or bass.

I have never had issues with CPU running up to and over 100 instances in a session, all set to Digital+ so it's pretty CPU friendly ime. I would definitely recommend engaging the compensation if you're eqing hats/shakers etc or indeed anything that needs detailed high frequency work.

Hi theres,
I'm a happy user of EQuality, I have been glimpsing at EQuilibrium and I'm wondering (sorry if this has been covered a million times)... there is circuit modelling going on, but the sound is transparent? I don't really use EQuality to the extent I could (i'm definitely not a power user) but know the quality of DMG plugins, and this new EQ is the only thing stopping me from pulling the plug on the Maag EQ4.
I think I prefer the idea of a good coloured EQ with character, but can you talk me out of buying it, and instead buying EQuilibrium? Is it possible to 'emulate' the Maag EQ4 response with EQuilibrium? (maybe missing the point of a coloured EQ?...)

I have a problem :

I have a high pass set to 18db slope and 30hz cut (saved to default).

Upon dragging the point horizontally, the slope changes itself from 18dB to 24dB. anyone else experienced that ?

I keep running into an issue with Equilibrium thinking I have more than one band selected even when only one is. I'll go to raise the gain on one band, but 2 or 3 of them will raise at at the same time (yes, I've double-checked that I ONLY have one band actually selected). What's weird is that hitting the undo button in Equilibrium resets the band I meant to raise, but not the other ones that accidentally raised too.

Had this happen in both the lastest versions of Studio One and Triumph. Anyone else seeing this?

Hi Tarekith :)

Yes, I've been having similar issues and I expect it will be the number one priority for Dave when he's back from resetting his brain :)

I personally would like to see a clearer distinction between a band being in "focus" and what constitutes a selection of bands for simultaneous control/adjustment.

I prefer working with Bandstrips as in Equality and this problem is defintely more manifest when working in this mode.

It's pretty frustrating to find you have adjusted other bands by mistake and it happens constantly to me at the moment.

It will be fixed I'm sure ;)

Thanks for confirming it's not just me.
