Well, I think we can assume that it's not going to be 199 for example. It's prolly going to have a street between 399-499 usd. I think it's fair to expect that.
Anyways, late summer will roll around and we'll likely be talking about fall, and then spring.

It's cool to see Claes himself doing the presentation. Bitwig will be a game changer and whatever pricing it will be, a feature list comparison with other daws should justify its price. Nice work.

Is multiple midi track views at once really that big of a deal? Lowly Tracktion has allowed multiple midi windows and any tracks for that matter, for well, almost 10 years.VitaminD wrote:larger image:
I wonder if there is a keyboard command or if the mouse scroll wheel can be assigned to switch between each midi sequence on this window??
What am I missing? No snarky comments about Tracktion being away for the same amount of time, please. I'm just trying to appreciate what the big deal is for seeing multiple midi tracks at once.

One can always say that other leading hosts are expensive. Easy to find when such incredible things cost so little compared to those(renoise, reaper...) or are even free (pydaw).ZenPunkHippy wrote:"Expensive" is always a relative term. The price will most likely be similar to other leading hosts available now, which IMHO is perfectly reasonable for the feature set offered, and the amount of work that has obviously gone in to the getting it right the first time.VitaminD wrote:2) it will be expensive.
My 2 cents.
Peace,
Andy.
Anyway no "big" corporation behind this one, that should allow them to be much more friendly in the price department...

Funny, I tried T4 and found that the big problem for me is the weak midi editor. Anyway it really cant do waht is being done here, to bad because I do like it overall.rockstar_not wrote: Is multiple midi track views at once really that big of a deal? Nice price too.

It gets better. They talk about version 2.0 featuresTheoM wrote:just read the faqs and realised no AU support or even rewire support. that's not a game changer to me.. 2 essential features for me already not there.

Of course your viewpoint is one of a pro audio developer.. so, naturally, you'd be inclined to make such a statement!ZenPunkHippy wrote:"Expensive" is always a relative term. Agreed.. expensive is relative. To the producer with money to write off of their taxes, even if this was 800 USD it is cheap.
By 'Expensive' I meant >= 300 USD for the rest of us. Please forget what it claims to do, forget the videos of what they've shown it to do.. just look at the price figure. If I see a price of 300, 400, or 500 USD, then it will be expensive to me.
If that is not expensive, then you have too much money, are not a hobbyist, or are too used to being financially abused.
If we compare it to the full Live! Suite then of course that is not expensive.. that is typical. But the typical in this situation is expensive. The pool of hobbyists has grown so tremendously (and you can see it in all of the small, portable and plastic keyboards, interfaces, and plethora of iphone IKM products
Which is why Ableton has an Intro version.. Cubase has an Elements AND Artist versions.. Sonar has an Essential version.. etc
And the one example of a well-known, professionally used host without a lighter version is Logic Pro.. which reduced the price to 199 USD. If you're going to tell me that platform is not feature rich then proceed to PM me so we can make you an appointment to stop by and receive a noogie by yours truly.
Bitwig has already dismissed any plans of a lighter version for sale (only a 'stripped down' version bundled with hardware controllers). That tells me it is either around the 199 mark and thus available to more people.. or they think very confidently of their platform to keep the price higher and forgo the lesser version (that is, a 'corner' on the market).
Besides, I wonder how many are going to spend 300+ dollars on a DAW that is going to be upgraded pretty soon after it is released? I mean they have already announced version 2.0 and version 1.0 isn't even close to being released. Unless they provide v2 at no additional charge, it is already even more expensive than we initially thought.
And you are speculating they have gotten it right the first time. Actually, this thread, outside of the videos is completely speculation. Perhaps most people here really are loose with the cash for fun stuff and I'm the minority... I just hope, if it is expensive, they have a decent resell policy and I can pick it up at a more affordable level.

Unfortunaly Bitwig crashes sometimes at the Musikmess (I was there an took a look ) I know this mean nothing but Claes also admit that there is still a lot of work for Bitwig. For me Bitwig is more in a alpha status then a beta.
One thing I don't understand is why the company self hyped Bitwig so much. For me it would have a bigger impact when they got their DAW done and then throw it on the market, to blew maybe everything away but at the moment Bitwig is a bit.

The Reaper license is a steal for hobbyists.VitaminD wrote: The pool of hobbyists has grown so tremendously (and you can see it in all of the small, portable and plastic keyboards, interfaces, and plethora of iphone IKM products) that there is now big money in selling to the hobbyists.

And Reaper-lite is also very affordable.
