Synthedit or Synthmaker to produce sample based Vsti ?

Hi, just a quick question for who wants to :help:

To produce a vsti, based on proprietary samples,
(a kind of sampler with a simple GUI and few parameters available,
but without the need of loading users samples,
just using its internal factory samples, so to speak)
in your opinion is better/easier to use Synthedit or SynthMaker ?

Any experience?

In the specific which one, if any info, may be better among the
SynthEdit Free version and the SynthMaker CM version?

Thanks a lot.

Peace
Diego

Synthedit has far less cpu for samplers, using either samples or soundfonts. Synthmaker is insane for samples, cpu-wise.

Not sure if SM CM can do samples, it probably can. There is no free SE, the demo is now 1.1 and you can't really render with it. The free version was the demo of 1.0 and it's now on the members only page.

SynthEdit can definitely do sampled stuff.
I tried it and gave up. Was just too much of a hassle.

Back when I tried doing it, it was just too badly documented, half the "official" help and tutorials were on newsgroups or lead to dead sites, and not to forget the Win x86 only restriction...
So I gave SE up.

SynthMaker probably looks a lot better and is better documented, but it's sort-of a dead-end. Is it even still being developed? I thought I read something about it being stopped. Anyway, also Windows and 32-bit only, so not very useful for cross-platform compatibility.

Your best bet for a normal sampled instrument thing would probably be to find some cross-platform sampler or sample format, something like Kontakt, Mach5 or SoundFont, and then create a library for that sampler.

Another option would be a great tool called MaizeSampler. Costs a few bucks, but it's great value and the support is really good. I found several bugs, or let's call them 'nuisances' as they weren't really mistakes, and all of them have been resolved.

Yep I meant the demo, I downloaded it some hours ago but still has to check it, Anyway for what I got it's less intuitive than Synthmaker for a beginner as me, speaking about vst making.

I watched some YouTube tutorials...

Thanks a lot for your info, have a nice day

I had a look and without even still starting, but just watching tutorials, I had the same feeling.
S exactly as you I found on the web Maize ampler which can be really what I am looking for, I am texting to the producer/company for some info but I am still waiting for his reply. I'll see.
But I guess is the good solution if I am not going for SynthMaker CM.

At the beginning I was going for the Kontakt solution me too, but to buy the Kontakt sampler licensed now is not the moment for me, and I don't want to force people if the will ever want to use my sounds/instrument production to relate on Native Instruments as obligation, so I prefer to find a parallel solution, sfz are fine, so many can load them wherever they want, but also can modify and redistribute them...so I prefer by now to think about the "allinone" instrument able to be played without third party stuff and also graphically nice to see. Maize would be the best solution indeed, if it's stable.

Thanks a lot again to all of you for your help.
Have a good day!

You should give Zforzando a try,I Made a simple drum machine only with SFZ opcodes to show the flexibility of these format, here the link of the thread http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... highlight=

Here you can found my DC 2012 entry,it,s a simple Maize Sampler toy ( Made with the free version)
http://www.kvraudio.com/product/klingkl ... reusenoise

So if you want distribuite cheap or free sample based stuff, these two are the best imho
12 years old PC running :Reaper;Reason;Dune;Zampler;Kontakr;Reaktor;and many others countless vst :D

Indeed reusenoise, you got what I mean...
the choice of going for Maize is getting more and more closer then :)
I'll have a better look at sforzando too ( I already use it to play my sfz sounds) but Maize give you the possibility to collect the samples in a nice vst with a nice GUI, which I love the idea..
Thanks again

Yes, Maize Sampler is indeed your best option! :)

Almost all of my instruments are Synthedit-based and load samples.

I have yet to really create anything with Maize sampler that could be considered professional. It's far too limited. The editor is excellent but the vsti it creates is 100% limited.

Good luck talking with the Maize guys - they almost NEVER answer you - it takes MONTHS.

Kontakt is an excellent way to go and you do not need to license it to create a library for it. You do need a full version of Kontakt, however, to create your instruments.

Sforzando/ARIA is very stable, easy on the CPU, and can do proprietary libs with custom GUIs.

The Garritan libraries is an example of this. However, you need to contact the dev Plogue to make a commercial prorietary lib with your own GUI.

SFZ is also an easy and flexible format to work with, highly reccomended!

By now I don't own Kontakt...and as said forcing non Kontakt user to have and download a Kontakt player, just to play my sounds for 15 minutes (because after the player shut them off), even if I may give some of them away for free, is not nice, imo.
Then I am not, just in this periods, not so keen in learning kontakt scripting.

Maize starts to be my first option, as I don't need so many parameters and option to work with, so even if more simple than other sampler, it may works for may needs at least at the beginning, but indeed I am still waiting to have answer back after contacting the developer.

About SFZ I agree but it leaves the sample naked and visible..and I would prefer to wrap them, so to speak, and about contacting a third company every time I want to release something just to have their agreement and paying for it, not knowing if after I am going to earn some, a bit, a lot, or nothing out of my work, is quite annoing.

So to be free and to close the library/sounds production in a simple instruments, usable in every daw, free from every additional license or software,I am coming to the point that Maize, or SynthMaker may be my solutions, SynthEdit may be but I am sincere in saying that by now is too complex for me and less intuitive than other products.

Thanks again for your answers indeed :)

At the end I went for Maize Sampler, it's my food now :)

in the future we will see.

sounds annoying but..thanks indeed for all your opinion, posts and help!
Great great free support and good energy over here.
Let's make this good karma rolling :D
Peace to you all
