Hi everybody,

I am trying to investigate what softwares (plugins or standalone) are modular synths, the part that interests me the most is not so much the modulation being modular, but rather the possibility to route audio signal the way I want.
I would like some help finding more synths and also help to see which does what, how they sound, what would be the pros and cons of each etc.
I am not making any distinction between OSs, I personnaly use windows but I'd like to know what's there for MAC too.

So far I've thought of Bazille, ACE, Mux, AudioGL, Sonigen Modular, Kamioooka, and things like Reaktor, PureData, Max, Csound, Supercollider...

I know for shure I am missing 90% of the synths, at least.

So pretty please, help me!

PS: I wonder if this is the right section, as there is a "modular synthesis" section if anyone feels it should be moved and has the ability to do so, please do.

Thank for those suggestions!
Of course I used the search option first, but try it, modular doesn't give much result (none of the synths I putted above are spotted with "modular" as a key word and "synth" as a category, so.....).

The DarwinArt software seems interesting, and I'll check Tassman too.

Edit: OK, the search you did was indeed more efective. I look in the 211 products list.

MUX looks interesting, how is it? I like the idea, but there isn't much video or sound exemples, or demo, so if anyone as an opinion it is more than welcome.

It's my weapon of choice in nearly all cases.
I have built my own effects (try here) and when needing a synth, i build one.

Several videos on YouTube by Trancit, look for the video links on the MUTOOLS website, and there you can also get the demo.
It is really a monster in the making and it is also the main component in MuLab "The DAW".
AndreasD made some neat stuff with it. It's deep and extremely efficient.
You can construct your synths and effects and other tools, and dump all kinds of VST in it including other modular synths

You've got the "heavies" (IMHO) - Bazille, ACE, Reaktor (which I still think of as a development environment / pseudo-host).

Two others that come to mind: Madrona Labs Aalto (for it's unique sound and awesome routing design), and FAW Circle (for it's ease of use and some unusual design choices)

Aalto does not fit the OP's request. Aalto is only modular in the modulations... the signal path is fixed

I stand corrected (and need to pay more attention)

In that regard, Circle probably fails that test, though it has a few more options for determining the audio path.

Thank you, I just realized that MUX's demo is inside the "normal" installer, so I'll go install and test that!
Yeah, Aalto is great, and I'd loooove to see it becomming fully modular, like pdxindy said it is not for the time being (but still is my favourite synth).

I mean if a good sounding buchla-modular-like VST comes out, I won't be able to come out of my studio myself for a year or two.
