Just a quick question I have about the sizing ratio of monitors to room.

Will 5 inch monitors be to small for a room of 3m by 4m rectangle room or should I go for some 6 inch's?

I only work in EDM if it makes a difference!

I have a simular sized room and 6" monitors. It's fine, and I'd say 5" is too small. That is, they'll deliver even less bass, rolling off half an octave or so higher.

I have a similar size room and 5" monitors, and I have absolutely no idea what's going on in the lower end. I suspect even 6" monitors won't give you adequate bass response.

By the way, you might be interested in Sound on Sound's article series "Studio SOS" (lots of articles available free on their web site).

I would suggest that you base it more on listening distance: if you want nearfields, then 5-8" range is perfect imo. Also in that size range you kinda need a sub for the lows. If not nearfields, then room size will be more of a factor.

PROPER room treatment should probably come before monitor selection..

I'm using 5" with a sub otherwise i'd go bigger.

You mean "before" on the list of priorities, I presume, not "before" in terms of chronology. It would certainly be a good idea to perform a test of room resonances. Even if it turns out to be difficult to do anything about them, it's good to know which frequencies you need to be careful with. Bass response problems and how to handle them is one of the things they always mention in the Studio SOS articles I referred to.
