Anyone got a Triple play yet? What do you think?

The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

$399? ..with fast accurate tracking, no thick cable, and state of the art software implementation? Suddenly midi guitar is within my budget.
How does the Fishman midi pickup tracking compare to the midi bridge setup on those Godins. Maybe it's better to stay hardwired for now. Although it must be said that 13 pin cable is bulky and cumbersome.

The Godin still requires a $700 Roland GR-55, or finding an Axon or Roland device used. And the pitch to MIDI still won't be as good.Leonardus wrote:$399? ..with fast accurate tracking, no thick cable, and state of the art software implementation? Suddenly midi guitar is within my budget.

Godin will be releasing guitars with Fishman Triple Play onboard. If you want to use the FTP with hardware synths, simply get an iConnectMIDI and there ya go.

Simply throw another 200 bucks at it, and it can do what it should have been designed to do in the first place!polaris20 wrote: If you want to use the FTP with hardware synths, simply get an iConnectMIDI and there ya go.
Except you can't, cause the iConnectMIDI is discontinued, and the new models are not out yet. Guess you could find a used one, but the newer ones are much cooler and probably worth waiting for.

Should have been designed to do? Says who, you? I have zero desire to use hardware synths, so anything additional that may raise the cost of the Fishman specifically would be undesirable. So who's right, you or me?Aural Chaos wrote:Simply throw another 200 bucks at it, and it can do what it should have been designed to do in the first place!polaris20 wrote: If you want to use the FTP with hardware synths, simply get an iConnectMIDI and there ya go.

With a simple MIDI out, I could use my hardware synths, you could use VSTs on your computer.polaris20 wrote:Should have been designed to do? Says who, you? Win win.
You don't think designing it around wireless added to the cost?

Simple MIDI out from where? It's a thumb drive-sized dongle, powered by the computer. They had a prototype that was like a stompbox, and instead went this route. I highly doubt the wireless is a more significant cost than an enclosure, power supply, etc.Aural Chaos wrote:With a simple MIDI out, I could use my hardware synths, you could use VSTs on your computer.polaris20 wrote:Should have been designed to do? But I guess you'd have to ask them to be sure. I for one couldn't care less, because it's exactly what I'd want anyway. YMMV.
Besides, this will be $70 and add everything you'd want anyway. Not a big deal, IMO. Still far cheaper than a Roland GI-20+pickup combo used to be.

Well, glad you are happy with it.
I don't think the iConnectMIDI2+ gets you where you need to be-you'd need the $200 iConnectMIDI4+.

The current solution really is also a demand for Fishman to support with new drivers for years to come, to all kinds of OS:es and technologies.polaris20 wrote:

When they don't - then you have a useless product.
Midi has been midi for 30 years, and would have been a better solution of giving a midi out.
There are already midi interfaces for smarphones and pads - and it would have been compatible right out of the box.
Hopefully it comes with such a unit as well. If there is a demand it will come, I hope.

The unit is class compliant, and works with iPads, Macs, and Windows without installing a thing. It's no different than a USB-only keyboard controller. The software just adds additional features. If it required drivers, it wouldn't work with the iConnectMIDI in the first place.lfm wrote:The current solution really is also a demand for Fishman to support with new drivers for years to come, to all kinds of OS:es and technologies.polaris20 wrote:

Well, I have an M-Audio controller with USB, and running x64 Windows I had to install their driver as well, just to get midi. Before that it worked without any special drivers in XP.polaris20 wrote: The unit is class compliant, and works with iPads, Macs, and Windows without installing a thing. In theory it's good - reality is sometimes different.
Thanks for info though.
One things that puzzles me a bit is that Line6 does not do this. They have everything already in their Variax system - separate pickup sensor each string and pitch tracking. They would be able to make the best solution of all, I think.

One thing I'm not sure about.
Can we use this to control our softsynths in a DAW?
does is show up as a midi port? or would we have to run Midi OX or something similiar?

Sounds like a problem with M-Audio, perhaps? All I can tell you is it works with iOS, OS X, and Linux out of the box. I will be testing on Windows 8 with no additional software tomorrow. I can't see how it possibly could work with the iConnectMIDI if it required a driver, because obviously the iConnect can't take a driver; it's not a computer.lfm wrote:Well, I have an M-Audio controller with USB, and running x64 Windows I had to install their driver as well, just to get midi. Shows up as a controller, or you can use the plugin if you wish, for additional control.dusted william wrote:One thing I'm not sure about.

Thanks Polaris20,
Is the plugin the 'Triple Play' version of Kontakt?
If one chooses to use the plugin for additional control, can it then export the midi from the plugin with the extra control to another channel in real time?
ie. can it send the midi data to another synth in your DAW, after it processes the input (in it's additional way)?
Thanks,
dw

No, the TriplePlay control panel software shows up as a plugin, inside of the DAW. From there, you load a VSTi. So in a sense, it's a bit of a wrapper, but it adds functionality by allowing independent string bend, individual patch string sensitivity, etc. It's not necessary for the device to function well, but it does add features. So far I've NOT been using it, and have just been using the FTP plain as a MIDI controller. But I plan to mess with the FTP plugin this weekend a bit.dusted william wrote:Thanks Polaris20,

I think it can do the second thing you're asking, by loading the "hardware control" patch within the FTP plugin, then sending that to a separate track, but I'll have to confirm that this weekend.
