me too but it has to be 100% authentic, no compromises! (like saving cpu cycles)

Although I'm also interested, I don't really care about it being totally accurate. Why is that so important for you? What's so special about the original DX7's sound that you don't find elsewhere?

I like noise and the converters impart a specific sound too that I like. Everything is too clean nowadays. Yes, it sounds pretty cheesy but I like oldschool house (80s and early 90s) so I like the dx sound very much too

DX7... Meh! A Kawai K5000s emulation would be amazing though. It had a nice clear digital character (that the DX7 didn't quite achieve) without the DX7's digital crustiness. A very underrated keyboard IMO.

DXs certainly were noisy - I haven't used all of the range, but the 7, 100 and 27 were heinously noisy. To the point that if you use a compressor on them you pretty well have to also use a noise gate.

I'd possibly be interested in a true DX7 emu, but I definitely don't want the noise from one. And I don't mean any aliasing noise etc (I have no problem at all with aliasing - loads of old synths sounded great with it), just that godawful hiss you get when nothing's playing. Not sure how much I want a DX7 emu though. I still have a DX100 - superb for bass, but TBH it's pretty crappy for anything else. You can make some specialFX, but then DXs weren't versatile enough to do anything that useful with the silly noises. Sure, it makes OK e-piano type sounds, but as someone else mentioned - they're so obvious and dated, there's only nostalgia bands that would dare use them.

So I'd buy a DX7 emu as a bass synth - but a bass synth alone wouldn't really get high prices from most people. I consider DXs as one-trick ponies that are superb at that one trick. Can't see myself going much above NZ$100 really.

I have used DXs for other types of sounds, but you have to process them so heavily to get them to sound like anything organic that the effort's often not worth it.

Personally I'd say keep all of the quantised noise, aliasing and everything else apart from the hiss. If you smooth everything out, it's no longer an emu.

I still have my original DX7II FD with grey matter hardware synth. I thought it was cool for it's time but now it's more of a relic to me that sits in the closet with my kurzwell 2000vp. Haven't used it in years since breaking a key on it and going software. Never missed it sound wise. So many options out there now.

I'm not sure what the obsession is tbh. The real thing has some of the best basses and e-pianos that I've heard BUT a lot of the sounds are crap. There is no way any of those synths can stand up to FM7 or FM8. I think anyone thats that picky needs to pickup a Tx7 and Tx81z for the peanuts they sell for and be done with it.

Yup, that's what I should do probably ... Or even hunt down real dx-7. I just hate how fm7 or fm8 sound. Very brittle and not good at all to my ears. I hate that sound. Just crap. But I'm in minority with my opinion I know, no offense meant anyway.
