ill have to try shimmer again. i know it got updated.Endor-8o8 wrote:To me Reflex is not better than Shimmer...Apple and orange, Shimmer has a pitchshifter in its core, and different stereo spread algos. It's not only made for huge spaces even if it can create lush reverberations. But Reflex is definitely a secret weapon that deserves more attention imo.erickUO wrote:+1AstralExistence wrote:ohh, you so like shimmer the best? thats different story. in my opinion, the free reflex vst http://www.stw-audio.com/products/reflex-free/ is better then valhalla shimmer. of all the reverbs ive tried, the size of reverbs it can create are insanely huge. i think in terms of deep huge space reverbs, not even valhalla room/shimmer can be as large as reflex. its synthmaker, but so what. imo, if you want huge cave like reverbs, reflex is the best and its free. im not sure how many people actually know about reflex, but its an awesome tool for adding ambience.
:edit: i just tried it. i know opinions vary but in my own opinion, shimmer cant get nearly as large a sound as reflex. shimmer sounds flat. im more then happy to say that i own valhalla room and layer it with reflex but in terms of huge ambient spaces as found in dark ambient/deep ambient reflex though free, is much better and sounds like your actually playing the synth in a giant cave. yes, i know, my opinion. theirs no right answer to personal preference.

Of course there's the Lexicon stuff. Different price league obviously - although last time I looked, they'd pretty well halved in price for the s/w. Still not comparable to Valhalla price-wise. Seriously though, you get a PCM, and you never ever look back.

Pretty much what I was going to say. I love the Valhalla stuff, especially vintage but sometimes I prefer something else. I do quite like Aether (and B2 seems great but I can't justify a second 2CAudio reverb) and I'm liking the NI classic reverbs more all the time. They are just perfect sometimes.audiohouse wrote:2caudio Aether or Native instruments RC48/RC24
Those are the reverbs I use, and for me its the best reverb plugins out there.
But I have heard good things about RP-Reverb also.
RP-Verb is good, I found it fairly similar in character to ValhallaRoom, though with different features.
I've found the NI classics to be much more cpu friendly than Aether. RC-24 is around 2% for me, RC-48 around 4-5%. Aether was typically about 6% in mono, or about 9-10% or more in stereo.audiohouse wrote: I am using the NI reverb plugs more and more, I find it very pristine sounding. If I had only $50 to spend on a reverb, it would be Valhalla Vintage Verb. It's insanely good for the price, and I suspect one of the reasons Lexicon lowered their prices drastically, IMHO.

ArtsAcoustic and Exponential Audio verbs are worth a shot. I have all of the Valhalla verbs, and still my go-to's are the Phoenix and AA verbs.
And as mentioned the 2C Audio stuff is awesome.

Lexicon lowered their prices about a week before I released VintageVerb. I had kept VintageVerb pretty much on the "down low," with no pre-announcements, so I doubt that Lexicon had any idea I was going to release the plugin. I also had no idea that Lexicon was going to lower their prices until they announced it on the various forums. It certainly jacked up my stress level for the Vee3 release, which was already running fairly high.bk wrote:If I had only $50 to spend on a reverb, it would be Valhalla Vintage Verb. Warp69 released the full version of LX480 around the same time frame, and Exponential Audio and Native Instruments released new reverbs within a few months of VintageVerb being released. I don't think that any of these were linked to each other, other than a bunch of companies doing similar market research during the same time frame.

I think IK's CSR is up there and a used copy can be easily found within the Marketplace.

I have found that Aether is just not a practical reverb for me. Great sound and capable of quite a bit, but too resource heavy.
Eos is very metallic sounding. Not a natural reverb at all.
Breeze is a great sounding reverb, and flexible. Digitally clean, if that's what you're going for.
CSR is my gold standard. I'm an old school guy, and this really gets that old school reverb sound, without artifacts.
NI's RC-48 is starting to get some heavy rotation in my rig. A bit less 'obvious' than CSR, but old school all the same.
All of the above will set you back well north of $50, so if you're looking to justify Valhalla, there you go.
Cheers

its true, price doesn't equal quality though.Robmobius wrote:In all honesty... I don't really use Aether as much as I use Breverb II and Valhalla.
I bought VVV recently and I think it's class.

So many non sense in this post.AstralExistence wrote:i don't know, but i assume definitely yes. for the same price, no way. reverb and delay are two effects that are entirely 'you get what you pay for' the more you pay, the better quality you get. theirs no good delay under 50 usd either. which would make sense seeing as how delay is so similar to reverb. there is, the diversion fx which has a killer verb for the 5 dollar asking price but its no longer available for those that didn't but the diversion fx cm mag when it was 'cm studio" there is the variety of sound epic verb which is no reverb slouch but its not on the same level as valhalla room but it is close. i never tried it, but i imagine 2c aether is much better then valhallaroom. that said, the cheap version of 2c which is breeze i tried it, and i think valhalla room even thought its 50 usd less is better then the 100 usd breeze but i cant really say as it was just a demo.
