True that, this is very important. As far as I know the FabFilter versions are the full versions of the plugins, but NFR, which is fine by me. Soundtoys have a few more restrictions; they are NFR and if I interpret it correctly I may perhaps need to update to regular versions "available at regular prices" (to quote SoundToys), before I can update them at normal price unless I can prove that I am still enrolled as a student (since I will most probably get my PhD in the beginning of next year, I will not be a student too much longer). don't know soundtoys but waves r expensivest shit I ever heard about.. one good plugin that autotune but fabfilter have one of best eq I ever seed.. maybe only prettiest but at least prettiest:))

Waves is no longer the expensive investment that it once was. I would go for Fabfilter. You get delay and filter plugins, compressor, eq and awesome limiter, deesser, and a few synths. All excellent sound quality. And they're from the Netherlands

I have the Sound Toys bundle, some Waves and some FF stuff. I also use S1.
If you are using S1 V2.5 (and the full pro version) I'd actually get the Sound Toys stuff first tbh. The FF stuff is great, but S1's Pro EQ and standard FX are decent (and better than the usual DAW standard ). So, there's no real point in doubling up imo. Even tho', Volcano and Saturn are pretty unique.
Soundtoys are very good for experimental stuff if that's what your into, and of course they are quality. S1 can't easily replicate the Soundtoys stuff.

Get Soundtoys and then use other companies plugins to fill in what Soundtoys doesn't cover. Soundtoys tick all the boxes for me they are very creative to use, simple on the front and technical controls behind the GUI.
ValhallaDSP for reverbs
Eventide Blackhole for big crazy reverbs.
DMG Audio Equlibrium and Compassion for tweaking the mix.
Keep an eye out for U-he compressor and tape plugins due out next month and maybe later than that.
Fabfilter are also at the top for quality.
u-he uhbik is a great bargin plugin bundle with top pro sound I nearly went for this instead of Soundtoys.

Thank you for all the insightful posts! There was a deal on the market place I just couldn't pass up on:
* Fabfilter Timeless 2, Volcano 2 and Pro-C for only $160
They have kept me busy these last few days. I have had a lot of fun playing with transient shaping techniques, and the delay for each filter in Volcano is neat as well with the Haas effect tips the manual gives you. As for Pro-C, it seems it will cover everything I need with its L/R, S/M routing, sidechain and parallel compression options and different algorithms.
Given that I will get some discounts on the next purchase, I will next go for the Saturn plugin and probably Pro-G (?). The latter plugin seems to be quite unique, and its video tutorial brings up more than a few interesting ideas for using it creatively. Another question, would Pro-L be a good buy? I am not even sure whether to use a limiter since I tend not to prefer squashing the sound too much. However, there are support for the Bob Katz K-levels, and it seems extremely intuitive to use.
Apart from this I have next been convinced to go for Equilibrium as the EQ, and also to purchase the SoundToys bundle, despite the iLok (hopefully an iLok2 will work as well). Blackhole looks amazing too, so I will keep an eye open to see whether they will offer some discounts in the future.
