I find that nothing really beats playing a real guitar....but if I'm in a jam and I need to sketch something out in a hurry, guitarism is a pretty cool option.

Or, of course...JamUp has a nice 8-track for recording on the fly
Rock On!

Are you meaning that you will not have a guitar with you? If that's the case, something like Guitarism via Audiobus and of course I recommend running AmpliTube as effects in Audiobus (or output/recording).

If you need a performance too, I second the OnSong recommendation for that sort of thing. Not sure that's really what you are looking for in your post, but still a great app that I use.

We have some Audiobus tutorials on our channel that could be useful too since I'd say Audiobus will be one of the most useful tools for a composing guitarist on the go https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... Wb83_3o70u

I kept looking for Audiobus tutorials, but once I opened the app it was super obvious and totally intuitive. No worries there.

I think Zeevj is looking for tablature, setlist, transposition chart apps etc.

But I've misunderstood many a thing.

For guitar in studio or live = Jam-Up pro HD! nuff said.

I'm glad you are happy with what you use but AmpliTube is more than just in the same league, let alone dismissed with a "nuff said".

Peter, for a company rep you sure are a smartass, and I'm getting Friggin' tired of you (a company rep) going after anyone who doesn't support your products.

You gotta stop thinking that I'm contradicting anything you say.
I wasn't.
I was supporting Derek's statements. [Keywords: guitar, composing, tools]

If I didn't have a guitar with me then Garageband has a great smartguitar module that's not only good for roughing out ideas, but sounds great in a mix.
