Simple shadow .... not so simple?

I'm new to this, so be kind.
I need to shadow JUST the outer perimeter of a rotating 'unfilled' circle. (masked rotation)

I'm at a loss.

Go to "Outer Shadow" section and increase the "Density" parameter.

I apologize for not being very clear.
It is an 'inside' shadow that I need ... but just on the outer perimeter .
Not a drop shadow.

Is it done with adding darker & narrower circles with progressively smaller width and density layers of the same circle?


I'm just not getting the realism from this technique ... so far.
Plus the outer edge is losing it's 'crispness' . (fuzzy)

Try "Edge Highlight", then. You can also try "Inner Shadow", with raised density, offset set to 1 or 2, and enable "Dir" with angle set to 0.

Use Inner shadow on just the smaller 'ring' ?

Oops, I was applying it to a narrow upper layer(ring).
OK...I tried the 1 'ring'
I'm not having much luck with the crisp edges now.
Maybe I'll just use a crisp photoshop image of what I want, import into JKnobman and mask the rotation.
Does that method produce good results?

Like I said, take it easy on me.
