Hi all,

Can someone please briefly describe the steps they took and tweaks they made to convert piano sample CDs (e.g. East West Steinway B, Post Pristine) into HALion (or Kontakt) format to have it sound "right"?

When I did a plain import using HALion or CDXtract and I play a series of C notes with increasing velocity, I can hear distinct, big discontinuities when switching between samples. These make my playing of midi sequences sound really bad. One note would sound really soft, and the next note would sound really hard even though their velocities differ only by a small amount. The same midi sequence sounds fine, though, using The Grand or mda Piano.

Is there supposed to be some tweaking I have to do beyond "import" to make these things sound right? Am I supposed to manually crossfade the samples? Something else?

Appreciate the link to the forum where several people have been discussing the same problem I have (namely, poor importing of giga samples). However, not sure how the tutorials you referenced help.

I know several people here use these piano samples in HALion and Kontakt. Perhaps you could recount your experience with regards to any issues and how you solved them?
