Just about a year after announcing MOTU finally released the brand spanking new Windows version! Plus, MOTU joins the growing list of companies that offer a full featured trial period demo!
Better late than never they say, interested to hear what Windows using folks will think.
I love it personally, very much it's own thing, MOTU has never 100% followed Mac GUI guidelines and at times for the better.

PC users have missed out on this great host for a while. I haven't tried it in a while either since selling my Mac and working in a studio where I used it. So I'm very excited about this. Already downloaded, and waiting to clear a couple of things out so I can enjoy the full 30 days.

Guess I'll be watching the Groove3 videos on it as well to get up to speed quickly.

I don't NEED another host, and I'm very content with Studio One right now. But with all the video work I do, and the LOADS of features that DP offers for the money, I have a sinking feeling that I'm going to want it, lol.

With my DSL the 799mb download will be awhile but I'll be firing this puppy up later tonight, dumping some stems, loading some standard midi files, loading some videos, etc.

What do you have to do to run the demo, registration wise?

P.S. Being that is the very first DP on Windows I would - highly - advise (at a minimum) doing a system restore checkpoint before installing it on your working system We obviosuly have no idea how invasive it might be or not.

I could see that. Fair warning, it's not a "fresh" new DAW that has a simple take on things, it's an almost 30 year old sequencer that has a ton of features, and does things much differently than Cubase, Logic, Sonar, Studio One, etc. Markers for one actually are super useful in DP whereas in Logic they're unneeded and have little use. The Track Overview is the main window, and it's really an overview. To get into the nuts and bolts of MIDI or audio you want to use the Sequence Editor and MIDI Editor etc.
Chunks are great, but can be intense to wrap your head around coming from any other DAW.
Basically a Chunk can be a whole song with it's own plug ins etc. or a part of a song, or a verse, just a bass line etc.

I'll need a time when I can engage my whole brain into it, watch some videos, etc. I've heard how powerful it is, so I definitely don't want to give up on it based on very shallow first impressions.

First things first, it installed without incident (which is important for a first-time port over to Windows). It's a simple entry of email and name and click of ok to activate the demo. No C/R, no iLok for the demo at least. It's great to have it here on Windows.

Not sure. I doesn't seem to say anywhere. Their plugins(MachFive and BPM) both use iLok, so if it were between those two methods you mentioned, I would lean towards iLok.

Now, according to the Sound On Sound article I found online about Digital Performer 7, it only required a serial number and the disk in the drive the first time you ran it(not sure if download was available then though).

So it's hard to say.

DP8 Mac when it was released was only a boxed version, copy protection is serial number and disc, possibly challenge response. There's now a downloadable full version so I would guess C/R.
How would you phase in iLock? That would only work if you offered it as an option IMO.

As I said, the only reason I would guess iLok is because the MOTU plugins use it. But it sounds like there is nothing to worry about there from what you are saying.

No problem, no real horse in the race here. I have an iLock for Xils synths and Machfive, and eventually Altiverb, but I don't love it, wouldn't want to worry about it with my DAW. <-shys me away from Cubase and Pro Tools for sure.
