This is just some twisted reality sh*t.

The Reaper (heh!) killed most KVR members and we now live in some kind of weird purgatory where no one talks about Reaper anymore.

In reality the few who are still alive are still opening over 9000 Reaper threads each day :hihi:

Cheers

Clear case! :-o

As far as FXs are concerned they are all good. Now, if you talk about synths, there are none. Ya, I know about ReaSynth. All they need to do is include Synth 1 and some demo project files in the download. Which IMO will give a fantastic out-of-box experience to a newbie. What I have noticed with the Reaper team is that they focus more on functionality/features rather than shiny knobs/buttons. Which is a good thing.

what? 7.1 mb? it used to be around 4 mb. What did they do? added some samples for ReaSamplomatic? :-D :hihi:

So I'm imagining things when Magix sell Samplitude "Pro" for roughly 500€, but sell a "Suite" version for twice as much - and the only advantages it has are more content and some tutorial videos. Aaaalright.

You ever heard about this: "If you buy our impressive product now, we'll even include this other impressive thing for the same low price"

If, in your opinion, Cubase users are not charged for all the content - then what are they charged for? ONLY Cubase? You think ONLY Cubase on its own is worth 650€ or whatever it costs nowadays?

It is absolutely clear why single extra products like reverbs or instruments cost a lot. For one, there's logistics - they need to be stored somewhere and distributed, no matter if digitally or shipped. Then there's the maintenance and updating matter and all that...

What you pay for with these "bundle deals" like Cubase, Studio One or Samplitude is the ILLUSION of "having it all", that's it.
Reaper is much more honest in that way.

BTW, Reaper also has a top quality set of plugins that come with it. Sidechainable and Multiband Compressor, Gate/Expander, IR Reverb (even capable of creating your own IRs), Algo Reverb, parametric EQ, FIR plugin that EQs/comps/gates the spectrum, a full-blown AutoTune clone (automatic and manual correction, different scales etc.), it has pitch-shifting and other modulation FX, and then there's the tons of JS effects that include some GUI-less gems from Stillwell and Schwa...

The fact that it doesn't include any SFZ non-Round-Robin string libraries or 1-hit-per-drum "Session" drums, any uncommon and publicly not very widely appreciated "big samplers", heavily aliasing rubbish monosynths or useless "aaah" vocal sound loops... I can live with that.

As I said before - we don't wear the same clothes, eat the same things, drive the same cars, like the same songs. But just because we appreciate different things doesn't mean that the other things are "not as good". You like the things you prefer more than I do, I like the things I prefer more than you do.

Preference is an individual matter, as is the usability or the workflow.
Neither product is universally better or worse.

If a thing doesn't fit your needs or requirements, that just makes it not-the-right-one for you, but it doesn't make it "bad" or wrong for anyone else by default.

Reaper is just as good as Cubase or Pro Tools or Logic. It comes with less content, thank God, and it works in maybe mysterious ways. It is different, but it is not bad or cheap or rubbish or anything other negative.
Not even if you and 1000s of others can't or won't appreciate its value.

Deal with it.

Sheesh... it's like a f**king religion to some people.

fandango, you just need to deal with it. I mean, Reaper wins EVERY TIME. It's every bit as good as programs costing ten times as much...........because the users said so. Forget the lack of some important features that just might, maybe, possibly be included in some of the larger packages(features that if you don't need them, you probably don't even know they exist in the DAW world).

Yes, a religion to some people, it seems. They aren't content with their host unless it absolutely beats every other host in the world. Strange world.

And before some nitwit comes along and makes the claim that I said Reaper isn't professional, that's not at all what I said. But this stupid idea that other hosts aren't charging a legitimate price tag is just laughable. They charge what their users are willing to pay, and they can be every bit worth the cost. Sure, Reaper(the "non-pro" license) is a great value. Best value out there in it's price range, in fact. But if you don't know what you're being charged for, and you think it's JUST extra instruments, then you just aren't aware of everything those hosts include that may be important to somebody working in the post production field, or in a surround mixing environment, or whatever.

Reaper is awesome. It's not a world beater though.

Off the rails.

Look, my comments about Cubase's instruments - Cubas is $499 btw, not $650 - have nothing at all to do with Reaper, except for the fact that people always imply they they're paying for instruments they don't need. No, they are not. They're paying for Cubase. The instruments are just part of the package.

Case in point is Adobe Audition, $350, no instruments nor any midi sequencer at all? Should that be $60 because there's no instruments? Of course not. You can get a version of Cubase for less than $350, with instruments, and midi. So... how are you paying extra for instruments in Cubase Artist 7 at $250? You're not.

Jeeze guys, $250 Cubase Arrist 7 has instruments + some DAW features that Reaper doesn't even have, and Reaper's professional list price is $225?

Cubase full costs $500 because there is 3+ decades of development behind it and because it has capabilities $100 workstations don't have, period.

Why can't there ever be a reasonable and factual discussion without all the silly drama? This particular argument only exists because some daws don't come with any instruments (their choice) and some people need to create a secondary reason for it other than the valid reason the comapny gave... a reason that amounts to .... "everyone else is getting ripped off but us". :)

Sorry for the numerous ipad typo edits.

Not exactly true in my opinion. Reaper is a great DAW without question. I am a kind of a "Gain Staging Freak" trying to maintain proper gain structure at every point in the signal chain. But it's a real hassle to do this and if you want proper gain staging you (theoretically) have to insert a VU-meter plugin into every other insert slot position. (except plugins with built-in input and output meters of course).

I'm too old to be a "fanboy" of anything. What I want is to simply press a button to enable pre-fader metering. (proper levels within the plugin chain ARE important, there're lots of plugins requiring a certain level to operate in an optimal way, similar to an operating point in good-ole analogue electronics). Reaper can't do this, in PT for example it's a single click in the options-menu. IMO I could easily do without post-fader metering at all :D

Just my 2.5 cents.

I was shocked, too... I feared they could have added the double amount of customization options...

Reaper is much more honest in that way.
I use *none* of Cubase's content. its functionality and the fact I get on with it was surely worth the $499. There is no illusion, I know what the things are. I know of the things I require that REAPER does not provide me, additionally. Apparently there are new features in newer versions of Cubase that I am aware of but not to the degree I was driven to upgrade.

'REAPER is more honest' - with the pricing? Or are you saying the choice is more honest because one is not operating under the ILLUSION? The pricing is what it is out of the creator absolutely not having to make the ends meet with it. Cubase should cost more than REAPER objectively, as has been pointed out there is a lot more time and deeper development of it. REAPER was tossed out into the world half-baked and kludged along to a point of competition. That design consideration isn't so trivial. But it's great if someone enjoys the experience of sorting all this out and forming 'their' REAPER.

There are things I'm aware of it would do better for me alongside absolute deal-killers. There is no equality, there are people that have particular ideas of how to proceed making choices out of that.

who is actually bothered if people prefer REAPER? The whole thing of the thread is this overwraught pushing of it which you're being the poster child for.
