I posted a thread about this deal a few weeks ago, and felt kind of responsible for folks getting ripped off. I've gotten discs burned by them in the past, but it's all worked and the serials were good, so no worries.
But this is a horse of another color. Or should that be bull? The deal was supposed to run thru 6/19 and is already gone!
Then to add to the fun, on monday of this week I got my print catalog from them, and guess what the free bonus is for buying the $499 Cubase 7 or the $149 Izotope Iris is? You guessed it, Effectrix!
I'd contact them by phone and find out what the story is if I was promised a copy in the Biohazard sale. Maybe a squeaky wheel might get some Sugar-y grease!

EVERYONE, THE PLOT THICKENS:

Seriously though, does that mean they do have copies of Effectrix in the back some where??

I had a similar experience with MF earlier this week, I went for their "Stupid Deal of the Day", made my order at 8:00am Central, a few hours later they apologized as the item was out-of-stock, and then sent me a coupon certificate.
My take, they probably are becoming more popular with their frequent deals that they run out of stock much faster than their always "slow" system can report. When I talk to their reps on the phone, they complain about how slow it is every single time!

I have had quite a bit of experience with web tech, and that seems like a public relations move by saying that... not based in reality... systems are very quick.
How does the coupon work? Thanks for the info

CLIFF NOTES:
1. I was super excited for this deal - Biohazard + Effectrix.
2. Received the BH
3. They said Effectrix was out of stock, but will ship so 'We sincerely appreciate your patience'
4. They cancelled it, and will not get Effectrix
FULL STORY:
I bought the Biohazard + Effectrix + 4gb samples deal at Musician's Friend. The deal was set up so if you buy Biohazard, you get the others. All three were to be shipped to my place. I received an email telling me to be patient waiting for Effectrix, since they are out of stock.
Biohazard + 4gb samples arrived just fine.
A few days later, they email me saying Effectrix was cancelled, and will not be delivered.
Just a warning! Is this normal guys?
My name is Luke and I am a supervisor at Musician's Friend. Unfortunately with this offer we oversold the Effectrix licenses and are not going to be receiving more licenses from sugar bytes. I understand that this was a key feature and determining factor in making your purchase and the last thing I would want is for you to feel like you got less than what you payed for. bjporter I will be emailing you directly and working with you to take care of this for the hassle and I encourage anyone else that had Effectrix cancelled off their order to email my team at forums@musiciansfriend.com. We want to make this right for you and ensure you feel valued.

Was the software on the thumb drive? or is the user supposed to download the software by himself?Teksonik wrote:They come in empty DVD cases with a card inside with the serial number so they ran out of those.....bjporter wrote:I guess technically it's a hybrid... since it was being shipped.

You download the software off the manufacturers site(s), and use the registration cards in the DVD cases to authorize them.TheWall wrote:Was the software on the thumb drive? or is the user supposed to download the software by himself?Teksonik wrote:They come in empty DVD cases with a card inside with the serial number so they ran out of those.....bjporter wrote:I guess technically it's a hybrid... since it was being shipped.
The thumb drive has lots of construction kit samples and a few drum kits and loops in various styles from Big Fish, in Rex, WAV and Apple formats. They've taken some heat here, but they're very well done for the genres they're named after. And they make great beds for commercials and videos too.
And just to be clear, I think MF is a great company whose Stupid Deals and sales have put a lot of great software in reach for me, and their free thumb drives are in my pocket every day. It's just the musical (eh, eh?) deals on this one have me a little gun shy of recommending them for the near future.

Totally agree. And it looks like MF is trying to make amends. Good news to everyone who got the shaft!bjporter wrote: Didn't see this post... good point! And if this does happen it leaves everyone with an awkward situation, since it was free in the first place... wish they would just tell me: 'Hey look BJPorter... Jimmy in the back messed up this time. We put him in the corner with a dunce cap for one hour'

The software had to be downloaded from the Sugar Bytes or Imageline sites. The thumb drive just had loops and samples on it from Big Fish.....TheWall wrote:Was the software on the thumb drive? or is the user supposed to download the software by himself?Teksonik wrote:They come in empty DVD cases with a card inside with the serial number so they ran out of those.....bjporter wrote:I guess technically it's a hybrid... since it was being shipped.

The problem is Big Fish promoted 4 gigs of loops and samples but that also counts the same samples duplicated in Wav Rex and Apple Aiff format so you don't actually get 4 gigs of different samples. Now that's Shady. Like I said earlier the samples are crap but then I'm not much of a loop man and the single hits aren't too impressive. That's probably why MF was giving them away...at the listed price of $79 I'd be upset to have purchased these samples. That's not Musician's Friend's fault it's on Big Fish Audio. The thumb drive does make a nice compact device to backup files or move files between computers so I'm happy it was part of the deal.Xenobt wrote:
