Did KVR Scare the Reaper Peeps Away?

I'm telling you, if Reaper was priced at $399. 00 there would be half as much complains.

Don't ask me why. Maybe because it would be in the hands of a more selected user base which would invest that amount after a more honest test drive and take responsibility for the investment.

At the current price tag + forever free demo, everyone is in. Good and Bad. Wishful and evangelistic.

MTD:Most Toylike Daw award goes to Live (my favorite and I'm using). Its GUI has been like $3 iPad App.

I never understood the hate this program gets, you can literally customize it to work in the way you want it to. The only problem I had with Reaper was the bugs...the devs do listen and fix alot of bugs but some get overlooked. Nothing is more annoying than working on some music and having your inspiration killed by a bug in the software literally made me want to give up and use something else to be productive again.

Well, first let's be clear that there rarely is actual "hate". People on the Reaper forums seem to think that criticism equals hate sometimes, but usually that's not the case. Most people here, myself included, think Reaper is a completely legitimate and powerful host.

The problem is with the users who seem to think that it CAN do everything, and better than anyone else.

You can customize the heck out of it, but you can NOT customize everything. There are built-in behaviors and ergonomics issues that can't be changed, and specific workflow functions that can't be changed through the options or themes.

And some people just don't want to have to customize a host to work the way they want. Why do that when you can buy another host that already works the way you want it to?

Reaper is a great host, but it's nowhere near a right fit for everyone.

The problem is with the users who seem to think that it CAN do everything, and better than anyone else.

That is actually a serious problem you will see everywhere these days. Now that there are so many tools available for free, commercial yet affordable. Everyone is out there for their 15 minutes of fame and they think these tools will let them achieve it quickly. It's not only in music but everywhere else like video editing, graphics, Smartphone apps, etc. Nobody understands that you need to learn the tool to get most of it. I don't think there is any single DAW out there that can do everything imaginable in a quick and easy way. Yes, some DAWs take 2 clicks and some 8 clicks to do the same thing.

Another point is transition. When you move from one tool to another expectations build up on assumptions that it will be better than your previous tool. The moment you hit the spot where it takes more time than your previous tool to the do the same thing all hell breaks loose. If you are flexible enough to accept the fact that the new tool works that way, it's you who need to change not the tool then you will do okay or else just create a rant thread in KVR, many will join you, sympathize with you and advise you and tell you how great their tool is and how f**ing stupid you were not to even think of that tool

When you look at it, it's more a psychological argument than a functional one. You can always tell by the amount and the voracity which host is easier to obtain by cost or cracking.

It seems guilt or the lack of induces fanatics to defend that platform to assuage them of their perceived handicap.

I witness that on a daily basis at the Live forum in both extremes Pro and Con. It's probably the most cracked kit on the planet. With reaper having a generous demo period you can see the same behavior displayed at times.

It's possible to make great hit's on both those platforms(and most host's for that matter), if they weren't on every forum demanding attention.

Yep. People feel personal about their choices, and why not? It does get out of hand at times, such is life.
