25 bucks for a year? And when it times out, you pay another 25? Or go straight for a hundred bucks if you find that you can't live without it?

Sounds like a paid, one-year demo to me. Not interested. At all. Equality and Equick can do anything I need, with fab SplineEQ for the surgical stuff.

If it were easy, anybody could do it!

$25 for a year or $99 for life. But if you buy a year licence you can upgrade it for $74 = $99

Have you had a look at Fabfilter Simplon? Versatile and super simple. I'd be lost without it! :)

I never would have thought of that, but it's an interesting idea. I occurred to me though after my last post that I have the Sonalksis EQ. It doesn't do more than a 24dB slope though but I think it will do. It was nice when I had the "other" eq for the trial to have so many options just for the hi-pass.

Simplon isn't what one would call transparent though. But it's worth checking out, IIRC there are 3 filter characters to choose from, FF One, Gentle, and something else. I have used it a lot on harsh acoustic guitars. Just switching the LP filter on smooths things out, even if left fully open with 48db slope option.

Another super versatile EQ i like a lot is apEQ, an oldie but a goodie. Can't vouch for transparency, but stackable, slopeable, do what you like-able bands. Even M/S per band, etc etc. Worth looking at for surgical stuff. The notch filters have saved a number of audio tracks from the trashbin.

Happy hunting. :)

Check out my other post in the Neve eq thread. Too bad vst isn't a native logic format cause the cdsoundmaster eq is fantastic and there's even a free version with limited bands. But maybe there is a vst to au plugin. I don't know how that works but worth checking out for a freebie. I bought the full version and still blown away.
Hi.. personally i won't touch nebula with someone else's computer..

Anyway, Jadeq LOL = Just Another digital EQ.

cheers
Hi Theo. It's not Nebula. It's only powered by Nebula (same technology). It has its own GUI. It's not the Nebula sampler. Aside from the cpu usage, it is pretty fantastic.

You telling me right now you have only the portico eq? That's not going to cover what you need on it's own. I could never use that as my one and only!
No no, I have a few different EQ's. Actually the main thing is none of them do extremely steep slopes which I like for dance music and so on. It's also handy to have more than one choice for HP & LP type.

I am hoping Portico will just be a nice musical shaping tool. Anyway, I don't want to derail!

TheoM wrote:That's what it is. for $25 it unlocks for a year. it's pay as you go.
Are you sure?
I was under impression that you won't get any updates after a year unless you pay $25 for another year or buy lifetime upgrade. I don't think it will stop functioning after a year. Anyway, I had this question in my mind and have sent an e-mail to AOM to clear this. If it's what you are saying then it's not cool. It's like a paid demo as mentioned earlier. I hope it's not true.

I am demoing this at the moment along with some other high-end EQs. I do find it's transparency pretty cool. I don't hear the artifacts that you usually hear on other EQs. Need to play some more.

25 for all updates for the next year, or does the thing expire after a year? Seems strange to me.
Maybe 1 year of time to find a better one?

I think it's like renting the EQ license for a year. I think it's not realized by some that you never own your software. It's always a license to use it.

I beg to differ. When you buy a license of a specific product, you own that license. It's not renting, it's not gonna expire. However, this one sounds like renting which is strange. No need to speculate though. It will be clear soon.
