I'm not a fanboy of REAPER, I just like the features of this DAW. If I can afford Pro Tools or something like this, I'll get it and work with it... :wink:

okay, have never tried the demo, I know very little about Reaper besides what you guys tell me.

Last night I was checking via email with my old drummer from the 80s, he was really down the other day because his band booted him (he's a singer now) and his GF dumped him.

He doesn't have a lot of experience in what we do but I know he could pick things up quickly (though I haven't seen him in decades, we stay in touch on FB). I told him he doesn't need a band, I told him maybe he should try my route, I told him how expensive this passion can be and how much freebies and great deals there are out there and how cheap it can be to get started.

Then I sent him the link to Reaper, told him about the demo so he can take his time figuring things out. Who knows one day he might be the next new member of KvR :)

It's not really about affordability. Can it do the same thing and more for you than Reaper? then why waste money buy some plugins instead to keep you motivated.
I am not a fanboy either. One thing that I love about it, is it's CPU usage. Less than any other DAW I tried. Which allows me to use more plugins / FXs, etc.

It's not going to happen any time soon. Justin said IF VST3 becomes much more popular, say, as popular as VST2 is now (which is far from reality at the moment, VERY far), they will support it. Till then, nada.

See, this is like the chicken and egg thingy.....how does Justin expect it to become popular if it's not being supported?

VST2 is so popular because it is readily available. Make VST3 available and I would guess it will be widely popular. Just being able to assign values PER Note is something I am VERY interested in.

@vst 3: You guys know I own every single thing ever made right? :hihi:

Point being, a HANDFUL of those are vst 3 in studio one. I realize there are some fab things that vst does (for sidechainers in particular) but it's not really popular. I don't know the political reasons.

Well, even some of the "big guys" aren't supporting VST3 just yet, so...

Sonar, for example. Ableton? DP? PT? :P

This was in 2008. Things haven't changed significantly since then. For every VST 3 plugin there's at least 100+ VST 2.4 plugins.

You are right. It must be a real PITA to code for is the only reason I can see why the devs don't want to support it.

But then I remember all the opposition when midi first hit. Many devs then said basically the same thing "I don't see a need for it". Now look what we have! Besides a mess! :lol:

I just think keep moving forward. There WILL be a need for VST3 (else why would Steinberg commit resources?) and it's just better to be out the gate first with new technology.

The only real "need" for VST 3 is per note modulation that's used by piano roll mockup composers. And that's not the majority of population which uses DAWs.

Sidechaining and all the other "goodies" are all possible in VST2.4 in one way or another...

Let's see. Plugin alliance, FABfilter, and Izotope.

I don't think I have any other vst3 plugs that I have. None of my amp sims are I don't believe. None of the NI stuff,right? SSD/TT, they aren't that I can see. Is overloud? I don't think so. Omni? Trilian or RMX?
