Hello all

I was wondering if there was a way to use your computer/laptop keyboard to enter MIDI notes, either in the step editor or live while recording (as if you were using a MIDI controller...but without the controller!)

Google hasn't helped me as using the word 'keyboard' instantly refers you to a MIDI keyboard. I'm asking because my computer mouse is dud and doesn't always register clicks and it takes such a long time to write a sequence. I have a MIDI controller on the way to me but it's a Saturday morning, I'm alone and I'm bored...

Thanks!

A guy with serious GAS and lots of unused VSTs. But if I someday need them...

Sweet, I'll give it a go! Thanks!

The download link is broken on there and I can't see it anywhere else online! Anyone have a mirror?

OK I've got Trollo and it's working fine to test VST sounds (I can hear it as I type this, how annoying! But as soon as I hit record to start entering some phrases into MuLab, nothing happens. I can still hear it in the monitor but it doesn't 'track' anything. Do I need to enable something?

Maybe a focus thing?

If so, i recommend Vanilin.

This one uses a keyhook and a virtual MIDI cable, so it works no matter what window has the focus.

(MIDI Yoke virtual MIDI cable download on Vanilin site.)

Tip: You can also create your own keymaps for it. That way you can distribute the MIDI notes across your keyboard keys the way you like it best.

The MIDI Yoke installer doesn't seem to work in Windows 8. I can't install it and I can't even run it in compatibility mode...any ideas?

Wow! Thank you very much for this.

Edit: there is even a pedal key! Best virtual qwerty keyboard I have ever seen.

Edit: My computer tells me that the website is questionable though :( http://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/vanil ... ontextmenu

Only one: Another virtual MIDI cable.

I would be surprised if there isnt one that works on 8 too.

No idea why that is, but i can personally vouch for the application. Im using it for more than 2 years now and never had a single problem with it. Its absolutely flawless.

I wonder if a bad ad banner with a virus sets it off sometimes, or something like that. Huh. :? Thanks though, it looks great.

What do you mean exactly by Focus thing? Should I be changing the target module or something?

I didn't have any luck with Vanilin and a free MIDI cable I found online. Is it supposed to run outside of MuLab? I'm lost :(

Wait, I've got it! It popped up in the MIDI map menu.

Thanks all! I have learned something new today!
