Hi,
I read some of the posts but still am much confused. iPad 1, iPad 2, iPad 3, iPad 4, adaptors, charging, lightning, USB2, USB3, cable length, digital audio in and out, midi in and out. What's a guy to do???
I will be buying the Ipad 4 64 GB wifi-only very soon specifically for music.
Will be using the Ipad mostly as a midi controller. What I need to do is connect the iPad to my desktop where I have Cubase, Studio One and Reaper.
So I need midi (and audio out) form the iPad. So I Goggled:
ipad midi lightning "usb 3" but did not have much luck. Is USB 2 OK?
Will something like this single cable lightning and USB cable about 2 to 3 meters long (8 feet long) work and avoid additional adaptors?
http://ubercable.com.au/product_info.ph ... able-p-388 Will I need a USB hub to power the iPad?
Will I need a special App to get the Ipad to output midi and digital audio? Right now the midi is most important. Yes the analogue audio can be had from the headphone out jack.
I am new to this so sorry if these questions have already been answered.

You need:
- Camera Connection Kit + class compliant midi interface
- or something like the IK iRig Midi
And then a midi interface for your PC too, to connect both.
- or an audio+midi interface like those from Tascam, Roland, ...
But afaik, the above solutions don't provide power to your iPad.
Or ideally, but not cheap: http://www.iconnectivity.com/iConnectMIDI the 2+ or 4+: has audio, midi, power, no cck needed....

The USB version is unimportant.Kalamata Kid wrote: ipad midi lightning "usb 3" but did not have much luck. Is USB 2 OK?

Est. Availability: Q2 2013
If I didn't already have an iPad2+IO Dock, I would wait for those.
Really too bad those things don't have audio outputs. I don't like the idea of combining ASIO drivers & adding latency.

I'm so confused. I bought a lightning to USB adaptor and my UNO midi interface works fine on my 4th gen iPad but I can't get audio in or audio out using a USB3 cable connected to my USB hub which is supposed to be powered. I plugged directly in to my iMac and that did work either. I have a Scarlett 2i2 audio interface hooked up to my iMac. I must be doing something wrong or my USB hub doesn't actually supply power like its supposed to. Please anyone if you have any ideas, let me know as I'm sorta stuck not knowing what to check.
Thanks,
Greg

- Why are you using a USB3 cable? Try using a normal USB cable?killmaster wrote:I'm so confused. - Midi interfaces are for midi, they don't transfer audio.
