Well, it's May 17th (the Norwegian independence day) and instead of marching the streets waving my little flag, I've been cleaning out some self-made samples from my hard-drive...

Monkey's Audio ape-files:

Industrial.rar : These are some industrial samples (a couple of loops and some single hits) recorded with a Røde K2 and an Alesis AM-11 mic hanging out of my bedroom/studio window. Oh yes, that noise is right outside my window. Lovely. But inspirational.

Homegrown.rar : A self-made, intentionally crappy sounding drum/perc kit made up of cardboard boxes, wood and whatnot using the AM-11. Multisamples, even. All single hits, but you'll have to make your own kit in whatever sampler you're using. Sounds pretty cool with distortion - then again, what doesn't? :)

Misc.rar : Uhm, well, the rest. Includes some nice stereo ambience recordings of a small stream of water, and walking through a forest, made using a Røde NT4 stereo-mic. Large(ish) download (7 megs).

... And in Ogg Vorbis (350kbps) format for those poor souls without access to a monkeywrench (ie. Mac users):

Industrial_ogg.rar

Homegrown_ogg.rar

Misc_ogg.rar

Samples are 16/44.1 mono and stereo, all some of the files have been slightly processed (not the stereo-recordings). I've recorded everything myself, so there's no copyright on these whatsoever. If you use them for anything interesting, I'd love to hear it! :)

Cheers,

Arne S.

Thanks for sharing... but :-)

No! The copyright exists - it's yours! Unless you explicitly put this stuff into the public domain, at which point you have no more say over how it's used than anyone else. And even then, I'm not sure how easy it is to put something properly into the public domain...

So: the copyright is yours. You can licence your intellectual property so others are free to use it (perhaps subject to some retriction). Or you can divest yourself of copyright.

Then again, maybe your post is enough to put the samples into the public domain...

Argh, sample clearance nightmares...

Aw, you just CAN'T please everybody, now can you? :D

Ok, I hereby declare these samples free for all use, unless

a) You're some greedy git intending on putting them on a sample CD and selling it for lotsa cash, in which case I'll personally show up at your door with my "little friend" and make sure you see the wrong of your ways

b) You're some clever fellow that will use these samples to make something much more nice and cool than I've been able too, in which case I'll start sulking and start a thread on how unrespectful people are of other people's free samples :P

Seriously though, unless you're intending on selling these, I don't see any problem. If somebody wants to write a disclaimer for me, I'll be happy to add it to my original post. :)

Enjoy,

Arne S.

OK, thanks, and thanks very much for sharing.
One thing though: I noticed there's no monkeywrench for mac yet. Not a problem for me as I'm on PC now but there might be mac-users out there who would like to use your samples.

Good point. I'm a little low on serverspace at the moment (hence the compression), but I might put up some high quality mp3s or oggs instead later on. I'll see what I can do.

Thanks arne! I think your licence terms are most reasonable! :-)

OGG would do nicely - sfz eats OGGs.

These sound really good.
Thanks Arne :)

Glad you enjoyed them! I also have a small collection of kitchen appliances samples that I might dust off someday... Including a lenghty (20 mins) 24-bit stereo recording of coffee brewing. I kid you not. :D

Server-space and time permitting, I'll put up some more stuff, eventually. :)

Cheers,

Arne S.
