Looking for a way to mix a microphone and my iPad, then run it into a speaker.

I'd like to do this all on battery power.

Any ideas on the subject?

I have the iPad and an sm58. I just need some sort of speaker and a way to mix the sources.

The Alesis Transactive portable PAs are great for this sort of thing.

Not sure if your in uk but there is a public order act that prevents this without permission if its loud enough to be heard by others.

You could always try an iRig mic and a wireless bluetooth speaker. That's how I do it - but it's not really for "public performance"

Is there any sort of latency with the iRig? Can I run that and the animoog/synthX at the same time?

It's pretty much just for practice/pleasure. I'm in Illinois and I'm sure there is some sort of ordinance. Although it might be fun to do a glitch mob type video where I set up and run before the cops show up. ;)

I've mainly just used it with ThumbJam, so I haven't noticed any real latency issues. Animoog has background audio, as do the ikMultimedia solutions. They have an entire line, but since you already have an SM58, you'd probably do well with iRig PRE:

Hope this helps

Heres what I do:

I have an Audiobox VSL22 audio interface, which is connected to a usb hub which is powered by an Anker Astro 3 power supply (battery). To connect to iPad, the Apple camera connection kit, and the Lightening to 30 pin adapter depending on which iPad you have. That stuff gives me audio and midi, in and out.

I use either a Roland BA330 (big) battery powered PA, or a Roland Mobile Cube (small) PA.

Busk on!

Whoooa, that sounds liiiike a siiiiick setup. Not sure I'm ready to busk yet. I'll consider something like this when I'm ready. I want to take animoog busking so bad though. It sounds a little dangerous though. People kill for those iPads.

Ha ha! Well, I tend to busk in semi-affluent areas, hipster ghettos etc.. The worst that has happened so far was I got sideswiped by a hula hooper, and I stepped in dog doo once, tee hee. People are generally fascinated that so much music can be made portably.

I run a guitar & sometimes a bass into an ipod with Jam Up Pro, then that goes into the Audiobox and into the iPad, which has Thumbjam as an instrument and looper. Thumbjam sends midi clock to MoDrum and Alchemy Pro. MoDrum just plays in the background - I select various of my own chosen drum loops which are appropriately time stretched in it's looper slot to match the incoming midi clock, and Alchemy is Audiobussed into Thumbjam. I sometimes also Audiobus Animoog & Magellan. iKaossillator gets some play, it can't do midi clock, but if you fire it off accurately, it'll hang with the tempo indefinetly w/o drift.

The one man battery band is a reality in the 21st century! Now wheres our flying cars and jetpacks?

Do you have any video of you in action? This sounds amazing! I'd love to feature it on the site.

Hi Tim! Wow - I am incentivized by your suggestion, I love Discchord! You've got square #1 on my Opera browser Speed Dial, ensuring daily visits. I suppose I could "film" something on an ipod and record the audio with a Zoom H2 direct, then combine it in Premiere or Vegas on a PC . . . hmmm, I'll send ya an email at your site when I've got something! Ciao, brutha.
