I am no "fan" of dongles BTW and also prefer simple serial numbers or key files but for me it is no huge problem or "no-go" like it seems to be for other people here.
That's all i have to contribute to this topic and now back to V+.

Don't know if you can count me to the "usual" suspects, but in this case it a little confusing, because at this point half of Xils products are simple serial protected and the other half requires a hardware lock. I was personally hoping that the recent trend (Oxium being the first full Xils synth with serial protection) would continue and I wish them all the best of success not needing to lock their products to hardware. That's why I am a little dissapointed.
I've decided out of personal principals that I won't buy any hardware locked software, or hardware/software that would lock me into particular market places or support contracts or that kind of nonsense. And besides that I've decided to better read license agreements before I buy stuff. Freedom and choice FTW

like mentioned in the last sentence of my post i did not plan to further comment on the "dongle" topic in this thread.
BTW for the records my post was much longer and most parts are cut out in that quote.
Did you also notice the
I am and was mostly clear about my POV concerning what i like and dislike (or where i was/am not certain) which not in all cases fits to the common (or what's called "common" at KVR) opinions.
I own all or most of the products (software wise) of e.g. Xils Lab, Tone2 and Waldorf and am totally convinced about those products which was leading to some trouble in the past.
Of course i also had a few critical comments concerning products of those which i usually tried to keep in closed Beta forums, PMs and emails.
Two of those three companies are using eLicenser protection BTW which does not mean it's my preferred protection method. It just means that i like those products and tolerate using that kind of copy protection which seems to work easier than most C/R protections BTW.
I guess i could not really add anything new to that dongle discussion now. This should be up to Xavier and Lotuzia.

Yes, sorry, I cut your quote because it was rather long and I knew already how dongles work, I used to own one in the past.
I don't want to start a long and tedious dongle discussion either, but I'd like the freedom to mention my dissapointment if a product has this copy protection, in particular if some of the previous products of the same company had not. I'm a customer of all their serial number protected products btw.
I like Tone2 products too (and own some of them) and fortunately they seem to do fine as a company, without the need to use 3rd party hardware protection on their products
Lots of companies do show it's possible, so I (and many like me) will keep my hopes up.

I was not really asking about why they are using the eLicenser for V+ (instead of e.g. a serial) and as someone already using the dongle it was also not a big problem for me.
During Beta testing there are usually more important things to care about except if a problem found is related to the copy protection. I also entered testing quite late due to other projects, a little misunderstanding and a little "silliness" from my side.
Anyway it looks like even with the reduced time i was able to be helpful and to convince Xavier to implement a certain feature.

I clicked on this thread today expecting to see people talking about the new synth which looks very tasty indeed. Instead it's filled with trolls complaining about preorder marketing and dongles. How unfortunate.

I'm not a troll, in fact I'm on quite good speaking terms with Laurent and Xavier. They know I do like and praise the quality of their products in general.
And I know they do take criticism seriously (and lightly), which is very respectful behaviour.

filled with trolls. disregarding the fact i'm not personally trolling by discussing the make believe pre-order thing, out of a 12 page thread approximately 2 were dominated by the pre-order theme. And a chunk of 1 page is dedicated to cats. As for dongles, I haven't been keeping count, and while I agree the dongle issue is old-hat - I don't think the amount of posts dedicated to the topic put much of a dent in the 12 pages ?donato wrote:I clicked on this thread today expecting to see people talking about the new synth which looks very tasty indeed. Besides discussion themes, perhaps you were hoping for audio demos ? Ingonator {a beta tester} indicated that beta testers have been instructed NOT to post demos while the A/B comparison competition is running. So what you are missing out on in that respect, due to 'distraction', is nothing you wouldn't have been missing out on anyway.
so basically you're talking out of your backside, and contributing absolutely nothing what so ever. no POV. nada. if you want to talk about trolling look no further than yourself. thank you.
and so it is, murnau goes on hunger strike.murnau wrote:never ever feed a troll again!

I can see why it might be a "little confusing" but I think if there is a trend it's more to use serials for the cheaper products not based on complex vintage gear, and the dongle for the more expensive and presumably more R&D intensive products, that I guess they feel need stronger protection. I appreciate why you don't want to use a dongle, I felt the same way at one point but at the end of the day there was too much great stuff out there for me to allow myself to let that get in the way.Nielzie wrote: Don't know if you can count me to the "usual" suspects, but in this case it a little confusing, because at this point half of Xils products are simple serial protected and the other half requires a hardware lock.
